my first period thoughts, straight from my blog...

Quote:

I’m not sure any impressions can be made from that first period of hockey. While the Rangers certainly worked hard they had so many turnovers I actually lost count. The problem I have with bashing the heck out of them for it is that the ice looks just awful out there. Way worse than you ever see it at the Garden, which is REALLY saying something. I saw at least 3 players fall over for no reason, that means the ice is like slush, which you cant really skate on.

I’d say the bulk of the period was dominated by the Lightning, they definitely have their legs in this one. BTW, kudos to Aaron Ward on that bone crunching hit, its about time you saw a Ranger do something like that.

Need more shots on net
I dunno.

As yankees2022 said, we need to do a better job getting out of our zone or we'll pay the price eventually.

Rachunek with just under 10 minutes of ice time that period

Toots just under 6, Ward just under 5.

Renney showing a lot of confidence in Karl or hes resting up Toots and Ward for the final half of the game and they will be playing a lot then.

His "nice' hit should have gotten him a penalty as it was late, with no puck in sight.

Very good period. Didn't like Roy's hit on Jags but good to see A Ward absolutley deck someone. Lampman-Pock>Malik-Rozey

Good thing...

the Lightning didn't capitalize on chances. The Rangers struggled mightily in their own end, especially trying to get out of it. Tampa missed a lot of shots, and didn't have guys in position to capitalize.

Still wondering how Ward can be benched.

As I type this, Ranger scores (on the backhand?).

Thought Girardi and Pock struggled at times in the first. Lampman seemed to be steady and hold his own.

Yea seriously, shame on him for not being able to see through 4 players.

The goal was on Nylander for turning the puck over at the blueline.

Rangers can't get down on themselves.. They have to turn up the intensity and get it back.

Nylander goes up the middle, can't clear, another Ranger dosen't clear the rebound, and 3 Rangers screen him, yeah it's his fault..

Not sure I can blame Henke...

after the last replay, it looked as though he didn't see the puck until it got through him. With a couple Rangers in front, perhaps that shot never should've gotten through.

It all happened off of that first shot with the nice rebound... It was an easy shot to hold

He is just lazy. He hasn't been playing or at least it doesnt look like hes playing anywhere near 100%. He floats around a lot, does a spin with the puck and thats his shift.
