Well there you go, play with no effort, don't put up points and act like a ***** when you get benched and claim a trade and that's what you get.

Gainey has just proved that you better work your ass off on this team or he will throw you away, I hope this will serve as an example.

The only thing i can figure is that BG has a trade on the table not involving samsonov that he wants to make asap which requires cap space and the only way he can arrange the cap space is to waive Samsonov and either someone picks him up or he puts him in the minors for now where he doesn't count against the cap.

Other than an imminent trade I can't understand why he would not try to move him in a deal for anything moving toward the deadline.
Maybe he tried to do it for a couple weeks, it looks like we would have to pay the other team to take that big fat contract (ie : Sammy + 2nd for a 4th ) so it may be better to simply wave him.

Well, is Montreal is freeing cap space to sign someone like Niniimaa? Because it's the best we can expect now.

Don't you think he already has? Someone posted on another board that probably the only way anyone would take Samsonov is if we got a big contract back (see Aucoin). This probably was not Gainey's optimal plan but it's a business so...

i'll not pay 140$ for that ECHL lineup.
Actually, Lenny, they don't need your 140 $. They're already packed for the rest of the season.

Another thing would be making a huge statement to the players, specially to Samsonov. If they're not happy, they'll find players who are. I'm sure Gainey has tested the waters and nobody was biting, now it's either a move to show Sammy that nobody wants him even for free (players wise) or like you said, a team doesn't want to give any players of value for him and Gainey now wants to unload that salary ASAP, so he's actually hoping somebody picks him up.

No... they actually lost a point to the Pens who now can pass by the Habs if they win their 2 games in hand... By the way, this line up was dominated for 40 minutes on home ice by a young and tierd Pens line up.

Abbott relayed to the Le Journal that, while Samsonov has not produced as expected, he thinks Samsonov is being portrayed as the primary problem with the Canadiens, so the best solution for all would be for a deal before the February 27 trade deadline.

Samsonov was placed on waivers by the Canadiens Wednesday afternoon.
I'm not sure I believe it. There seems to be a mistake.

Why isn't there any mention on RDS.ca, canadiens.com and NHL.com?

Wednesday afternoon?

Nick, nick, nick. This russian fella was doing f-all since the start of the season. Maybe it will give the opportunity to a younger stud to come from Hamilton, like it should have been from the start of the season.

....

what a way to wake up on TUESDAY morning.

i thought he had been playing pretty well since joining the bonk line like his agent pointed out.

i really think the team let sammy down and not the other way around. when you only use a guy on one line for most of the season and then demote/scratch the guy what do you really expect. he is a first or second line player and he wasn't even tried on the first line.

i really hope he goes and lights it up somewhere else just to show carbo that when you have talent you gotta use it.

It's very possible, and he certainly would not be included in a deal for a valuable asset that I'm sure BG is attempting to acquire heading towards the playoffs (can you say Forsberg).

I suppose, those comments may very well be true, either way I think the timing is directly linked to BG's attempt at making a significant move and his need for cap space to do it, since the price for higher impact Forsberg like players is low salary players or top prospects and picks. According to my very quick rough calculations, Sammy in the minors tommorow, or picked up by another team, gives us enough cap room to absorb a Forsberg straight up. If i'm wrong please let me know.

If he does end up putting Sammy in the minors, we can all thank Mr. Gillett for being a great owner willing to absorb that salary for the good of the teams cap space.

They were lucky last time...they'll get crush tonight...

What I just don't understand is why Gainey and Carbo are panicking now? Why change the lineup that much, why put Samsonov on waivers now, why not recall young guys...

Samsonov place on waiver
Sportsnet has learned that the Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Sergei Samsonov on waivers.

The veteran winger has struggled this season, with just seven goals and 15 assists in 52 games.

Montreal signed Samsonov in July 2006, to a two-year, $7 million deal.

More details to follow.

Its True!!!!!!!!!

Who's lucky? The Pens for having tons of PP minutes?

Gainey is not panicking. He's sending a message to a spoiled motherf. who has been playing the Trade-Me card for much too long. Let him rot in Hamilton.
