Help!

Howdy. I'm new to Columbus and i'm trying very hard to be a Jacket's fan. I was wondering where I can go to watch the Jacket's play, other than the arena of course. What are the best bars? Where are the most fans?

Personally, I'd like to see the local members of the CBJ board get together at a hole some night to watch an away game. Jacketracket and I discussed this briefly at a game one night and both thought it would be a good idea. Any takers????

Columbus bars are notoriously crappy when it comes to showing Jackets games. Half the time, if I'm at a bar when the Jackets are playing (rarely), they'll look at me like I have two heads when I ask them to turn the game on. And this happens in the Arena District too!

The only time I've had success was at the BW3 in German Village. They had the game on the big screen, and had drink/beer specials during the game.

The best bet is to just ask a bartender to turn the game on. They'll look at you like you're insane, but just persist.

Thanks everyone for the advice! We should all get together, pick a bar where they'll cater to our hockey needs.

With all the hockey leagues/teams that Columbus has, i'm finding it hard to believe that bartenders will give you strange looks when asking to turn the game on. That's just crazy. It's like they don't understand there are other sports out there other than football.

BINGO!
I love football as much as the next guy, but it is like pulling teeth at some local establishments to get them to change it to a CBJ game.
A few weeks ago, I was in a place that has six televisions. I sat near the one that the least amount of people were watching (actually no one was watching it at the time). The staff, to their credit did change the station when I asked, but four times during the CBJ game, I had to tell people who came in that the station was not going to be changed to whatever college football game was already being shown on the other five TVs.
I got my way, but it was a pain in my ass.

Is Grandview close enough? The Rose and Thistle. Kicka$$ Brittish hole in the wall.

what are you looking for in terms of casual -- a mellow, low key place or just a place where you don't have to dress nice?

My favorites are O'Shaughnessy's, The Elevator, Press Grill, and St. James Tavern.

I'm a fan of the Press Grill. Great jukebox.
Unfortunately, most of my excursions are of the Brazenhead, Roosters or BW3 variety. Not that those are all bad. They serve their purpose.
Also, PK O'Ryans (the Pub part) in Worthington is a great place for tasty food and beer and a laid-back atmosphere.

Hell yes! One of the main reasons I frequent the place. (That, and a very strong Tanqueray and tonic. )

I also like the Brazenhead in Grandview....but the place gets packed beyond packed some nights. Nothing's better than relaxing with a pint of Guinness on a summer night on their patio, though.

I prefer the pubs and Brazenhead is decent. Ive only been to the one in Dublin. Like I said, the Rose and Thistle is my favorite, but Fado's is good too. Mostly because they both serve Strongbow cider. Any of the Old Bag Of Nails pubs are good too.

I'm a big fan of the pubs too. I like Brazenhead Grandview, but it can be such a meat market at times. I like Old Bag and Claddagh too. Was there this weekend. If they have Guiness on tap, it's ok by me.

My favorite places in the Westerville/ north Columbus area a Gary's Place a nice and cheap sports bar. BW3's and Crown Sports Lounge. If a place makes you pay to get in or charges more than 2.50 a beer it's not for me. Another place in the Dublin area is the DUB PUB a great place to watch sports and drink.
