Samsonov clears Waivers

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=195240&hubname=nhl

MONTREAL (CP) - Winger Sergei Samsonov cleared NHL waivers Wednesday and also cleared the air.

The Russian winger, a major disappointment this season, says he's looking forward to staying on with the Montreal Canadiens after meeting with head coach Guy Carbonneau and GM Bob Gainey.

Pretty surprising, considering teams like Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Washington and Toronto could probably use some secondary scoring, and I think they'd all have the cap space at this point, excluding Toronto.

i'm sure a lot of teams would bite on the re-entry at half price

this leads to the question HOW is he going to stay on the canadiens

We'll bring him back into the lineup: this was more of a "You asked to be traded, but look, no one wants you for free, so shut up and play" move.

Also, the habs still have 30 days to send him to the minors and get rid of his cap hit should we make a move at the deadline.

Yeah, there will be biters on re-entry. I didn't think there would be any this way.

yup why pay full price if you can get him for 1/2? At 1/2 his salary I would happily pick him up and trade Sykora away.

It's funny, last year we had too many passers and not enough scorers, this year we have the opposite. Sammy might be very useful to us, as we could use more puck carriers. But only at 1/2 price of course.

No way anyone was going to take on Sammy for his current wage/output.

Ok here are my moves (as of this minute)

Grab Sammy on re-entry for 1/2 price.
Trade Sykora + pick to the Rags for Rosival
Trade Torres + Smith + 1st for a Weber, Mezsaros, Pitkanen type (W/M/P)
Trade Winchester + Bergeron for Babchuk
Resign Smyth

Then, after injuries we have this.

Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Samsonov - Stoll - Lupul
Moreau - Reasoner - Pisani
Peterson - Nedved - Stortini
Thoresen MAP

Staios - Hedja
(W/M/P) - Smid
Greene - Rosival
Babchuk

Roli
Jussi

I figure that is good and affordable for now, with lots of potential for the future.

Nice dream.

I don't any part of Samsonov. At whatever price.

First Nedved now Samsonov. Do we have the start of an Oilers curse here? Stay in Edmonton or else....
