Sather Vows To Keep Kids

Slats told Larry Brooks

Quote:
"We're going to do the right thing for the organization. We are not going to move any of the kids we believe are the future of this franchise."
LA offered Sean Avery,Mattias Norstrom and Craig Conroy to the Rangers for Marc Staal

Sather's response

Quote:
"I'm not going to talk directly to that, but we've gotten some very interesting proposals from teams looking to pick off our best young guys," Sather said. "It would be insanity to do something like that"
Sather did not rule out the Rangers becoming sellers and calling up six kids from HFD after the trading deadline. He added the Rangers are not giving out any NTC's

Love this quote

Quote:
"I'll tell you what, if Pittsburgh called and offered us [Sidney] Crosby tomorrow, I'd even throw in my left [testicle]".

This is comforting...

I'm really not all that bummed out about this season as most Ranger fans are... I've got my eyes set on the long term future success that this team will hopefully find....

Only good article Brooks has written all year...

I'm with you, brother. It's kind of funny how the pro-youth guys get so pissed off when the team is losing... the losing is what is convincing the management to keep the youth and start playing them. The winning streaks lead to more vets and more youth trades. As a pro-youth guy myself, I am very relaxed about the coming trade deadline. As a Ranger fan I am very unhappy about the losing, and in general I've been unhappy with the quality of play this season, but I have to admit that as a Ranger fan I like the path we are taking for future success.

That offer for Staal is pure comedy though, every now and then a gm throws a deal out there hoping Neil Smith is still calling the shots.

This is good news, however i still think sather will try and make a trade for either stumpel or a defensemen within the next week, and then if things still do not turn around he will attempt to unload veterans like kasper, rozsival, malik, and maybe a forward or two

the real question is, if we become sellers, does shanahan get traded? he could bring back a nice return as a rental, but do we try and lock him up to bring him back next season

this team will become a seller, i just hope renney is removed from the coaching position but is retained in the organization

that headline sounds like the kiss of death to me...

great to hear, but they have been saying the right thing for 3 years, i don't care what they say to the media, what they DO is what matters. sather can earn some trust by sticking to those statements between now and the deadline but as it stands right now it wouldn't surprise me if follows up this statement by trading dubinsky and callahan by the weekend.

agree that the crosby quote is great...

Thats good to know. If we land Forsberg it wont be for Staal!

Hes the only prospect I can't live with giving up on.

I can deal with Montoya (Cause of Lundy), I can deal with the rest but Staal is a sure #2 maybe #1 defender.

Go Rangers!

So I guess this means that Sather would give his left nut for Crosby .

Anyway, good to hear. Wouldn't it be interesting having gotten back Norstrom now so many years later after we traded him away for Jari Kurri and Marty McSorley . Would have been typical Rangers crap. Good job Slats.

This is some good news. Calling up 6 kids? wow. It would be nice to see Malik, Hall, Krog, Orr, and even Weekes go (Get something before he can just walk away). Other possibilities are Ward, Roszival, and Rachunek although I'd like to keep 2 of the 3. Probably whoever are the two cheapest, which I think are Roszival and Rachunek.

Btw I think every Ranger fan on this board would give up their left nut in a joint effort to acquire Crosby lol.

ugh, i just had a gross visualization of that..

but to agree with some sentiments above, i am not all too bummed about this season b/c hopefuly there will be better ones in the future. i knew coming into this season off last season that our team was playing over their heads, so this is expected. just dont mortgage the future..

I can exhale now. that was very comforting.
More than a couple of GM's on the playoff bubble worried about ex-legendary players breathing down their necks for their jobs, would pull the trigger on that trade. Good on Sather for resisting.

We'll see...

one good thing is there is a cap, so taking on a guy short-term who has a contract next season may not be a viable option anymore (see Ozolinsh last season). There are potential plugs, but give the fact that this team seems to be thin on elite prospects, they really do not have a heck of a lot to offer, and if anyone of those are offered, things could get bare pretty quickly again.

But again, opportunities arise and things will be dependent on the situation at that time.

Imagine if we would have fun that draft? We would have found our second line (lol!) center in Crosby!

Bettman seriously **** up by not fixing that lottery to ensure that we got Crosby. Crosby on Broadway would have made hockey huge again in NY, which is obviously the most important market for the NHL.

Stern did it with Ewing, why couldn't Bettman have followed suit?

Oh yeah, because he's a chode.

Straka - Nylander - Jagr
Prucha - Crosby - Shanny

Prob dont sign Cullen and sign a big time D instead.

You wouldn't hear nearly as much about the sorry state of the NHL if Crosby was being shown in Ranger blue on ESPN and the cover of SI

Isn't it funny that Sather refuses to say ANYTHING to the press...until someone mentions that he wants his job!

Honestly, I think I would rather us be sellers and see a lot of kids called up for the remainder of the season than barely make the playoffs and get swept in the first round. Of course you never know what can happen once you get in, but I don't see us winning it.
