Can Tavares reach 200 points?

I'm not talking about this year, but by 2008-09 can he reach 200 or more points? Mario had 282 points in his draft year, and to put it in perpective Crosby had 168 although Tavares will be almost a year older by his draft year than Crosby was.

But anyways do you think it can happen?

Probably. Maybe not next year, but the year after for sure (which I think is his draft year 09).

No, not that much. There's a limit to everything, and I don't see any junior player ever making close to 200 points in a season.

yeah i agree. its not the 80's anymore. crosby would probably have made it had he stayed in the Q, but everyone who racks up 120-150 points in he's draft year or any year for that matter wont stay in juniors the next year.

Ok, maybe not 200pts..but he'll come damn close IMO, especially with 2 more years in that league (if healthy).

Agreed. Brad Richards came close a few years ago when he got 186, but I don't see it happening in the other leagues, especially the WHL.

He will certainly miss a handful of games at Christmas with the World Juniors. Let's say he misses 10 games. If healthy, he would play a maximum of 58 games in a season. That's rougly 3.5 PPG, good luck with that.

Tavares has two more years of eligibility though, since his draft year is in '09. I wouldn't put it past him to score at that that sort of pace in '08-'09 given his prodigious start.

I might be wrong but I think it averages more than 1 goal more per game compared to the time when Crosby was playing.

During Crosby's time: (per team)

WHL 2.83 goals per game

OHL 3.17 goals per game

QMJHL 3.24 goals per game

I was thinking earlier this year, that if Travares played a full 68 game schedule in his draft year he could pot 100 goals. That sounds ridiculous but he could do it. Too bad he'll likely play only 50-55 games due to other commitments, possible injury time etc.

Ray Ferraro had 192 points for Brandon in 1983-84. These things go in cycles and the W could be the high-scoring league again someday.

Man, I'd rather be a "prospect nerdling" as you say, than know about those dudes. Those are some ugly threads. Looks like Evil Knievel meets the Jackson Five.

OK, seriously. You really don't know who he is?

Tavares is an awesome hockey player. Got an exemption to play major junior early and is lighting up the OHL.

Cheers.

Who is Tavares?

Hey, I really know nothing about prospects so go easy on me here. There were a few references to this guy on the NHL board, but I've never heard of him...How do you think he compares to Crosby? Thanks.

As far as I know he is more of a shooter than Crosby is.
