Calgary Flames @ Columbus Blue Jackets (2/8/07)

A much needed win for us tonight, let's get it done, boys! Hopefully they come out forechecking hard and put on a solid offensive effort.

Here is what is happening in Columbus...

The team didn't practice on the ice yesterday. Too many personnel / effort issues, had meetings instead.

This game will either be a complete blowout by Calgary (if the Jackets roll-over again) or it has the potential to be the best game of the season.

Either way, this is going to be a chippy one.

Thanks for the update.

So according to reports, it seems it will be Miikka Kiprusoff in net tonight for the Flames. I was sure they'd put Jamie McLennan in. I hope the work load doesn't effect Kiprusoff for this weekend's games.

Tonight would be a good game to put Jamie in, because Buffalo and Detroit will be tough games this weekend, and back to back! Also, according to the Calgary Sun, Warrener is probably for tonight's game and Itchy Itchy Byron Ritchie is questionable with a knee injury. Kobasew, McCarty, and Regehr 2.0 are out.

Sportsnet is reporting that McLennan will be in net for the Flames tonight.

HC Connected: McLennan starts in goal in place of Kiprusoff who started the previous 14. Either Ritchie or Godard will be scratched.

I like McLennan out there, but they have to have Godard.

I agree, especially after the last game against the Blue Jackets. I'd rather have Eric Godard play in this game than Byron Ritchie. And I want to see Godard lay the fists to the first Blue Jackets player who takes a run at whoever is in net for us tonight. I don't want to see any injuries to any player from either team, but we have to send the message out early in the game.

Flames doing their typical disappearing act and it costs them. You have to okay all 60 minutes in a hockey game. Can't wait for the Flames to learn that.

Far and away the most pathetic effort of the year. Calgary looked like the WHL's Hitmen coulda beat the living sheet out of them tonight. I hope this isn't a trend or this could be one daunting road trip. Shameful effort. Makes me almost cringe.

No fault to McLennan as he played a great game. Scoring 1 goal against Colombus. Brutal.

Oh yeah can I hire a hitman to take care of Zyuzin. Trade him for a bag of pucks.

Yep. Exactly. Horrible last 10 minutes of the game with awful turnovers. Blowing leads late in the game is starting to look like the new Flames trend as of late (along with stupid penalties). Unbelievable. If the Flames can't beat Columbus on the road, I hate to see what the outcome will be this weekend against Buffalo and Detroit.

Gotta give credit to the Blue Jackets.

You know what's cracking me up right now? Reading some of the posts on the Blue Jackets board from some of their fans, whining and crying about Dion Phaneuf's hit on Rick Nash. Obviously they seem to of forgotten all the hits we had to endure in our last game against them when some of their players took it upon themselves to take runs at our best players, and our goalie. I guess it only works one way. If they had to endure just one big nasty hit tonight, they should consider themselves lucky.

One thing I gotta say - it's games like these that make me appreciate guys like Ryan Smyth. One thing that drives me nuts about Flames games most of the time, that has me yelling at my TV, is the fact that there barely ever seems to be any players in front of the net to tip in the rebounds. We had so many opportunities tonight just pissed away because no one was there to get the rebound. I wonder if the Oilers organization would be kind enough to make us an instructional video on how to position yourself in front of the net, and have Ryan Smyth give us tips, 'cause seriously, I'd be more than willing to give them Zyuzin in exchange for that video.

Pathetic effort 2 nights in a row.

If we play like this against Buffalo, i'm calling it right now, it'll be like 8-1.

I hope Atlanta beats the nuckleheads on Saturday..

Wow quick turnaround. Yesterday it was all about bashing the canucks for a poor effort. I would take those comments alot more seriously if you backed it up with a decent effort of your own....

haha this is weird isn't both canucks and flame just couldn't lose and now they both lose against non-playoff teams. Oh well atleast its still a tight race.

Kippy should be playing Saturday right? I'm really excited that I finally get to see you guys out east this season. Kippy is my favorite western goalie, can't wait to see him at HSBC.

Hopefully Saturday is a fun game for both teams. Good luck!

Yesterday was about throwing it back in the Canucks' face for having talked smack about us losing to the Hawks, and then losing to the same team the following night. It wasn't exactly us just randomly "bashing" the Canucks just because they lost a game.

Haha yeah, it's like neither team can get a good solid lead on the other. And I have a feeling it's gonna be like this until the every end of the season.

Although it hasn't been confirmed, I would pretty much expect to see Miikka Kiprusoff play on saturday. And yeah, I'm excited for that game too, since the scheduling is so ****ed up, we barely get to see some of the teams. Although after tonight's loss, I'm not so sure how thrilled I should be to see us play Buffalo, and on the road none the less. lol. I would be feeling a lot more confident about our chances if we were playing you guys here in Calgary, where we actually know how to play hockey. But yeah, should be a fun fast paced game.
