That's foolish. I don't think they can get their compensatory first round picks now.

I bet all 12 of the Expos fans will be deeply saddened.

However, the good news (if there's one) is that we have $8 millions to spend on another free agent... Juan Gonzalez ?

Sucks they dumped Vazquez too. Some in baseball considered Nick Johnson NY's best hitter though.

I don't think you want Juan-Gon plus he wants to stay in the AL.

But if we cannot have Vlad, can we get another impact player like Ivan Rodriguez ???

Did anybody really expect Vlad back??? I just hope he doesn't somehow end up in Yankee pinstrips.

Are you crazy!! This ?/"$?/" didn't want to come with us earlier this year so we won't sign him.. And he's an injury prone.

I`m not a very big baseball fan...actually I hate baseball but I kinda follow the Canadian teams. Usually just when I`m watching the highlites on TSN...anyway for awhile it looked like the Expos were actually trying to be competitive again. They weren`t just making deals to trim there payroll. Trading for Colon etc etc. But now from what I`ve heard they won`t even be getting there compensatory picks if he signs elsewhere

They made him a good offer, he turned it down. That's the way it goes. They couldn't afford to go to arbitration, he could have got 15-20 M and taken up too much of next year's budget. That's sports today. He was the most talented player I saw in Mtl and I've followed them since 69, but I'll get over it. He'll hit 50+ somewhere next year.

I'm not much of a baseball fan, only really watch during the postseason. But if there is anything to turn you off regular season baseball, its this... I dont think I can bear to watch another game. Walker, Alou, Grissom, Wettland, Pedro, Vasquez and Vlad... the cycle continues... Who's next, Vidro?

Well said, this makes me more sad than some of the others before him leaving... I thought he might stay for a little less money and a longer term. If there is 1 GM who can recover from this it's Omar!!! BTW, Orioles, White Sox and Dodgers and Mets are the front runners... $$$$ has ruined sports!
