The suddenly-surging Chicago Blackhawks pay a visit to Rexall Place tonight where they face off against the Edmonton Oilers.

After losing 10 straight games, including eight in regulation, Chicago has now won four of its last five games. Three of those four wins have come in a shootout or overtime.

This game is the fifth of a seven-game road trip for Chicago and comes on the heels of a come-from-behind 3-2 shootout win over Calgary followed the next night by a 3-0 blanking of the Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers’ last game was also against Vancouver, a 5-2 loss Tuesday at home. Edmonton has picked up points in 10 of its last 16 games (8-6-2).

OILERS TO WATCH: Fernando Pisani has suited up in all 54 Oilers games this season, scoring 11 goals and adding 10 assists for 21 points. He also leads the Oilers with a +5 rating… In two previous meetings with the Blackhawks this season, Pisani has put up a pair of assists… After registering only one assist through 16 games, Marty Reasoner has a goal and two assists for three points in his last four games. In two games against Chicago this season, Reasoner has a goal and an assist.

BLACKHAWKS TO WATCH: Martin Havlat only played in one of the two prior meetings between the Oilers and Blackhawks but was dangerous as he netted two points. On the season, despite only playing in 32 of the team’s 54 games he leads the Blackhawks in both goals (20) and points (40). He also has an impressive +19 rating… Patrick Lalime made a successful debut with Chicago Wednesday in Vancouver as he stopped 34 shots for a shutout. He had missed the entire season to that point due to off-season back surgery. However, it is likely that Nikolai Khabibulin will get the nod in goal once again tonight. The Russian netminder is having a solid rebound campaign with a 2.75 goals-against average and .903 save percentage through 40 appearances. With 18 wins, he already has one more than all of last season.

LINEUP UPDATE (11:24 AM): Marc-Antoine Pouliot will play tonight after being recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton yesterday. During the morning skate, he was centering Raffi Torres and Fernando Pisani. Winchester is expected to be the odd man out.

FAST FACTS: Despite their overall struggles this season, the Blackhawks have been about equal at home and on the road. Their road record is 10-13-4 compared to a 11-13-3 record at United Center. Chicago is 3-1-0 on their current seven-game road trip… With Martin Havlat in the lineup, the Blackhawks are 15-14-3 averaging three goals a game (95 goals total). Without Havlat, the ‘Hawks average 1.8 goals a game (40 goals total) with a record of 6-12-4.

I wish Mac T would put Nedved with Sykie and Lupes. Petersen is doing NOTHING on that line!

Petersen is no better than Nedved defensively. Nedved even though his production is way crappier than any time its been at in his career is still better than Petersens.

we need this line to have a good night, Pouliot hopefully had a good practise with Raffi and Fernie yesterday, get on the same page n get some chemistry. This line can't get to fancy tonight, Pouliots first game back up with us in awhile, he wont be to nervous I dont think, he's almost ready I think to play up here full time with us. In my opinion when Stolli gets back, Id like to Pouliot get a regular chance to prove he can stay here, he can displace nedved IMO, I dont think that will happen though, from Macts comments last night, he said he was gonna stay patient with nedved, n continue working with him. Nedveds been a step slow most everyime tho, his efort level is good, he isnt producing though, he needs create chances on his own, around the net, n just look for his shot more often. Thats probly his biggest asset is he's got a great shot, we havent seen it though at all, he's passing off to his linemates, n cycles it sometimes then gets intercepted. He's gotta that stride, step into the slot n just get it away as fast as he can, grip it n rip it Petr! he said he had somethin to prove when we signed him, Prove it dude! no better time then now... we know hes got it in him somewhere...310 career goals isnt a fluke... however only a brutal 9 tallies in his last 89 Games, going back to the start of the 2005/2006 season.

Pouliot got his sniff last year, scored his 1st NHL goal, and hasent looked that out of place earlier on this year, even if he didnt get the results he wanted. He can carry the puck, but this lines bread n butter tongiht has to be on the overload, behind the net, throw it around the boards n try n generate chances off wrap arouns, create some rebounds n try n get some pucks directed towards the Bulin wall tonight, hopefully try n cave that wall in.

Raffi's gonna wanna have a rebound game , after last game, fernando hasent done a whole lot lately, A goal for his confidence now would be massive for the rest of the season, if fernando can get hot maybe he can still reach the 20 goal mark, we're gonna really need it out of #34.

Havlat the main focus of course like he always is, but he's seem oppositions best defensive pairing all year, he's been out there against them, and has shined, 40 points in 32 games this year for #24, including a +19, so he's not getting scored against wen hes out there, and he scoring more often then not when he steps on the ice. Man, he's just so shifty, we cant go looking for hits on him in open ice, he's gonna walk around you with a toe drag or inside outside move he burned us on earlier this year in chitown. Tuomo Ruutu also is a sniper, we gotta try n contain him, a fluid skater, great shot, soft pair of hands, and he wont shy away from contact, hes gonna take the hit to make that play more often then not.

If Adrian Aucion is on Kevin Lowes radar, then he can get a good chance to see his game tonight. He scored a goal in vancouver, but has only 1 PPG on the year, and is a minus 9 in 32 GP, avg, about 21 min TOI a game. Seabrook and Keith can move the puck, we gotta hit them when we get it in on the 4 check. Both are great skaters, n both can wire the puck. Keith loves to jump into the play so we gotta be aware of that, and maybe catch him on a pinch, n chip it by em' n head the other way for an odd man rush. Vrbata, Smolinski and Bondra are all decent but not great, SMolinksi is 2nd in team scoring for them, and probably will play on their top line with Havlat, smolinski scores alota his goals from 10feet in, so he does have quick shot, we gotta clear out rebouds, n make is easy as possbile for Rolli tonight, let him see the puck boys.

we gotta get 2 points tonight, or else we might be seriously ********* allready stuck 8 behind Minny, we need this badly, we gotta be carefull tho, cause the hawks r comming in confident after their 3-0 shutout over vancouver...we need to be ready from puck drop, untill the final buzzer, no lapses man, or its gonna cost us, this chicago team overall is a pretty fast club, we CAN NOT turn the puck over in the neutral zone or their gonna burn us.

About Toby playing on the 2nd line...
MacT should be fired. I don't care what he did or didn't do in the past. I don't care if he(Pisani, Pronger, Roli) got him to the playoff final. He makes too many stupid coaching moves. I have never watched a worse coach inmy life this year.
-Roli playing 10 games in a row and we are down 4-1 or 5-1 MacT doesn't pull him.
-The consistent shuffling of lines, neglecting young players confidence in his pursuit for 4 lines with 100% chemistry.
-Doesn't even give Hejda a chance, sends him to the AHL and we find out that he is actually our best D.
-Calls Mikhnov to the NHL and doesn't play him, leaves him in the PB, diminishing any confidence or moral he might have obtained in the weeks previous.
-Breaks up the Smyth Horc Hemsky line to let players like Sykora and Nedved leech off Hemsky.
-After Hemsky shows faith and loyalty by signing a 6 year bid when it was fashionable to get out of that Arctic Igloo hicktown MacT repays the favour by playing him with a career ahler.
-Winchester looked like **** in preseason but didn't send him to the AHL because he was on a 1 way contract. But every game Winch plays great it seems Mact benches him again. What the hell do you ask of Winchester. All he does he drive to the net, cycle the puck well and he draws 1 or 2 penalties a game. What more can you ask of someone playing 4-5 minutes a game?
-Calling up every player but Brodziak even though Brodziak was playing the best by far in the AHL. The guy is the 1st forward on a 5-3 PK and on the top PP. What more can you ask?

-His love affiar with Petersen is revolting. Like I've said before "playing Toby on the PP makes as much sense as playing Lupul on the PK". Playing 10+ games with Hemsky. Playing top PP minutes from the point!! Petersen can't even shoot the puck. Everytime Hemsky does his patented fake the wrist shot then pass to the left point man Petersen isn't even expecting it. He doesn't have goal scorer instincts at this level and shouldn't be getting top 6 minutes, PP minutes or both. Put a guy like Stortini in the top 6, atleast he can be effective, fill a role. All Toby does is try and not look bad. Just don't screw up. He doesn't care about scoring any points he just doesn't want to make a blunder that would send him back to the AHL.

Ask any top 6 player in the NHL who they love to play against and it will Toby. He hits as hard as a granny and has the offensive production of Matt Greene or Jason Smith.

Any top 6 forward in the NHL vs Toby Petersen for 15-20 minutes.... what do you think will be the end result? Is it a coincidence that he is a minus player and his point production is almost non existent? Playing Toby top 6 is like playing Hemsky on the 4th line.

As long as MacT plays Toby 15-20 minutes a game with PP time I hope we lose.

I would rather miss the playoffs and be entertained than make it and win 1-0 or lose 2-1 every game. MacT is going to end up missing the playoffs while playing the dullest brand of oilers hockey since it joined the NHL. Way to go Mac. We are going to waste a year of development of top prospects in favour of a career ahler.
It's funny... we got people that say things like "MAP doesn't have experience, Toby is more experienced and more reliable, the better option at this point"..
What are we going to do next year? Are we again going to say "MAP doesn't have the experience" again? How is he suppose to get NHL experience when we play Toby over MAP simply because he has more experience. It doesn't make too much sense does it? How are we going to develop 1st rounders when MacT plays pluggers over them because they are more reliable defensively?

Alright I got my rant out of the way.

Oilers 5
Havlat 2

Hoping for another big game for Stortini tonight. I just LOVE the passion that he brings. He is playing for the love of the game and playing for the fans. He has quickly become one of my favourite oilers. Too bad JFJ didn't have that kind of drive and will.

Looking at that lineup, it's patently obvious how much of a hole Jarret Stoll leaves when he's not there. Behind Smyth and Hemsky, this year he's been our most important forward...and one could make an argument that he should be only behind Smyth in that regard.

It's basically SHH and a whole lot of bingo balls in a drum at this point, as I wouldn't expect Stoll to be 100% healthy until after the trading deadline. THAT is going to hurt this team.

The Oilers *should* win this game, but all bets are off if Chicago scores first.

I believe that Brodziak has broken knuckles right now. And I'm pretty sure Mact doesn't call players up, that is Lowes job. Sure the coach probably gives hints as to who he would like to see up with the team, but it comes down to the development team (Buchberger) and scouting staff advice to Lowe as to who should get a shot. Why do you think Stortini was called up before Pouliot, Schremp, Miknov, Roy, Gilbert and even Peterson. Because Buchberger sees alot in Stortini, so he has been given a chance, and obviously he is making the most of it.

Not to mention, if MacT had a huge input into who got called up and who didn't, Jani Rita would've never wore an Oilers jersey.

It seemed like it physically pained MacT to even put Rita into the starting lineup.

It's easy to coach the team from a keyboard.

If you disagree with a point I made bring it up. Prove me wrong. With you telling me nothing but it's easier to coach the team from a keyboard I win by forfeit...

And being Rita couldn't play with Crosby, I have a feeling MacT had good reason to feel that pain
