Kind of a sideways move IMO. Still Hall had to go as he was doing nothing to add anything positive to the lineup.

I agree with others. I think Sather is at least positioning things for possible moves.

Thank god Blair Bettsky signed a contract extension... phew... with trades like J. Ward (+ prospects) for Avery (+ prospect) and Hall for Dupuis, its not that difficult putting together solid 3rd and 4th lines after all!!!

My fixtures on the 3rd and 4th lines: Ortmeyer, Betts, Krog, Hollweg, Dupuis...

Krog-Dupuis-Hossa anyone?

I also like these trades because they give the rangers some emotion. Theyll have a ton of home games down the stretch and having more energy in the building wont hurt. Avery, well we all know what he can do. Now they add Dupuis who also seems to be a bit of pest on and off the ice.
Maybe both players can benefit from the Garden atmosphere and in turn help the team reconnect with the fans during this stretch of home games.

good trade by Sather but it bugs me that he dealt for a UFA though, hopefully we can resign Dupuis and not let him walk like Sykora. Dupuis is a much better player and quicker.

I don't think the Rangers have had a decent french canadian on their team since Pierre Larouche. Seriously, the last one I can even remember in a rangers jersey is Luc Robitaille. What's up w/that?

earlier this week this website http://www.freewebs.com/rangerland/rumorsroom.htm reported a rumor that the rangers were talking to florida about horton. and mentioned montoya, prucha and hollweg going to florida...

so unless someone can confirm otherwise my assumption is a fan read the rumor on that site and then called in about it.

I dont know why we'd want to re-sign Dupuis. By training camp next year guys will be ready to step in. Callahan, Dubinsky, Dawes, and even Korpedo. I dont see him staying unless he plays flat out amazing. And I'm not saying the definition of amazing is scoring a lot of goals boosting this offense but if he can provide a solid all around game while making things happen then thats great.

I just hope he isnt another Jason Ward. Ward was great and all for a little bit but somewhere along the line thats not enough, you need more. I'm hoping Dupuis can provide the type of play that all the good teams get from players on their bottom lines which is some decent scoring and energy. Something we havent really had.

My one question on Dupuis is, doesnt he have some speed?

they where most likely going to let hall walk anyway, so I don't see it as a major concern. And Dupuis won't be a hard guy to sign if they do want to retain him.

I really like this deal. I know that Dupuis had a good season a couple years ago and is struggling to convert on his chances this year but he's a good two-way player. We needed someone like him to throw on our 3rd/4th lines and giving up Hall straight up for Dupuis was a good idea. I trust someone like Dupuis out on the ice to get the job done much more than Hall who is a bit too slow for my taste. Hall was a decent PKer and average on the 3rd line...he played TOO quiet of a game, IMO. I like his size but his scoring ability decreased a lot after he left Nashville and was non-existent on the PP.

Good trade for both teams but I feel like the Rangers won this one. Dupuis is a lot faster than Hall and plays a better two-way game, IMO.

No need to 'bugout' with UFA walking away. It's not like Jagr or Shanny, that i'd understand being upset over.

that site also says that the rangers would recieve a second rounder for the upcoming draft along with Horton.

I'm taking this all with a HUGE grain of salt, but:

Montoya, Prucha, Hollweg for Horton and a 2nd would be a good deal (even if I hate parting with any of those three.) If that's the deal then you have to pull the trigger.

but again, this is probably just speculation gone rampant, I'm not holding my breath.

Id love to get Horton. I have a very good friend from Ontario and his brother grew up with him. From what ive heard hes a good kid, and obviously is a solid young player.

atleast this guy can skate.. hall looked like he was stuck in the upright position and could'nt bend down to skate at any speed but neutral.. everytime i saw him on the ice i just wondered how does this guy get into the lineup..

now i'll only get sick when i see malik on the ice with his blazing speed and wonderful hockey sense..

I don't mind seeing Montoya and Hollweg going in that deal but losing Prucha would hurt. I think he still has a chance to be a very good player in this league and not showing patience with him will only hurt us. Maybe they could deal Callahan instead of Prucha? I like both but I prefer to keep Prucha.

I don't want to move Prucha, but for Horton you do it. I'd preffer not to move any of those players, but that's what it will cost and Callahan doesn't aproach the value of Prucha, so he's not a viable substitute.

If Dupuis removes his visor, then there will be no problems.

I like this deal. Honestly, Hall was attrocious. I know he wasn't a superstar to begin with, but he never showed me anything at all. Dupuis is a solid player who has had a decent (not outstanding) career. He's worth a shot.
