With the Canes getting Vasicek for Belenger and the Dupuis for Hall deals have the GM's out there possibly opened the trade gates for more deals today or major deals to happen before the deadline?
We all know Montreal needs to address their weaknesses and there are teams out there on the fence wondering if they are sellers or buyers. Gainey and others may start to pursue possible deals with more push now because it looks like teams are trying to address their needs now in the playoff chase.
Is this the beginning of a big trade day (weekend) or a tease????
Those deals are pretty minor and pretty much just a slumping player for slumping player type of deal. I wouldn't get your hopes up, but you never know.

I'm not so sure I want a trade now, action is always fun but I feel most of our players don't have their optimal value right now.
It's what I hated the most of Houle, He was always trading the players when things were going very badly for them.
Minor deals sure, but they are from teams chasing us to pass us.
Deals to date this month:
Feb.03/07 - (Bruins and Blackhawks) Brandon Bochenski to the Bruins for Versteeg to the Hawks
Feb.05/07 - (Rangers and Kings) Sean Avery and John Seymour to the Rangers for Jason Ward, Marc-Andre Cliche and Jan Marek.
Feb.09/06 - (Canes and Preds) Vasicek to the Canes for Eric Belanger
Feb.09/06 - (Wild and Rangers) Dupuis to the Rangers for Adam Hall to the Wild
Small deals, but more activity than we have seen happening in the NHL for awhile now. I think teams are tinkering early and the bigger ones are gonna happen sooner rather than later.
i think the aucoin/smolinski rumors are very loud... i see obvious parrallels to the theo move last year... there were theo rumors for a long time... much the same way there are aucoin rumors now... i don't subscribe to the rumor mongers not being able to pick up any tells from gainey... it takes two to tango... i know it's speculative but i think it was weird that sammy and rivet didn't play... the hawks just moved bochenski who they may have thought could play top 6 but then gave up on... #6 for us got a crazy amount of ice time last night... maybe there battle testign him to see if he can play should aucoin be acquired and get hurt... aucoin is as close a player to souray as there is around... lebrun's article in the globe noted he didn't expect souray to re-sign... i think lebrun is the second most reliable source after mackenzie. mackenzie mentioned this as rumor a while back as well... sportsnet had it yesterday... i won't be surprised if this goes down... i don't necessarily like it... but i won't be surprised
If we decide to trade on Feb 28th, we might already be out of playoff contention. I hope it doesn't come to that, but it's a possibility that Gainey has to look at.
I think we should try to get Aucoin. He's still a great D-man and can help a team.
I like Aucoin more than Rivet, plus he has more upside, we know what he can do when on top of his game. Rivet never accomplish much other than being a decent 4th d-man. So between both i choose Aucoin.
aucoin makes many mistakes much like souray... however he can't fight like souray and isn't as intimidating... he's a good complimentry defenseman and not a #1 on any team... especially the chicago balckhawks... the team that signs and expects souray to be a #1 guy will see similar results. aucoin could play well with markov or a similar 2 way defenseman... having aucoin and souray on the same pp during the playoffs would be a threatening proposition for shot blockers...
People here want a trade to happen just for the sake of it.
Ya...cuz our team doesn't suck and all, and we're totally sure of making the playoffs. Look at our top 6... Some AHL teams have better looking top 6's.
