Players you once liked, ended up hating

Only a few people ever fell into this category

Theo Fleury...Basically spent mid to late teens idolizing the guy, due to his tiny size, and then magnificent play. After he was traded, I still liked him, then he started behaving, to put it mildly, like a complete idiot.

Sean Avery....liked him because he was the chippy little guy on the Red Wings. After he left the Wings, without the vetran Wings like Stevie and Nik to keep him in place, boy did he get mouthy

Wayne Gretzky....Hated him as an Oiler, briefly started liking him as a King, then started hating him again. (Shut up, I was just a kid, okay?)Still don' t really care for him now

Sergei Fedorov.....loved him, then he left the Wings, and boy was I angry. Have now gotten over it, realized that was something that actually turned out not all that badly in retrospect, and don't really mind him, in fact would welcome him back at right price.Heck, would take him on the Caps(my other favorite team) as well....they ould use a good passing center, and have cap space.

Mikka Norronen, for the time he was here, until he sold out...what a waste of a second rounder...

and add Messier to it.... he did nothing for the canucks...

Yashin.

Captain of the Senators, quiet, classy, donated a million to the National Ballet or something.

Hate is a strong word, but his behavior since was disappointing...

Messier. I initially thought he was a great, tough leader. I liked him more than Yzerman. Then I realized half of the Messier personality is a show. His attempted coup of the Rangers GM position confirmed his decline for me.

Jagr - i used to completely admire the guy, he played for the pens for 11 season, and for most of those he was a happy intense player, won art ross trophy's year in and year out, a couple of harts, and took us to the playoffs......then his big head got to him and all he thought about was money, he just left this city on the wrong note, and i cant seem to like him anymore because of that.

Briere at the end of last season saying how he wanted to keep the core of the team together to have another stab at the cup, then asks for $5m at arbitration, turning down multi-year $4.5m deals...Luckily hes earning his paycheck. At the time I was fairly mad.

Sean Avery. Back when there was a ton of Numminen to Detroit talkes, I hoped Avery would be part of the return to Phoenix. If I recall correctly, I was hoping for either Zetterberg or Datsyuk, or Avery + Kopecky + picks.

Kovalev. Don't ask me why I liked him, don't ask me why I hate him now. I don't know. That's just the way it is.

Also: Gretzky. I liked him when he was still playing, but now I can't stand the guy. Again, don't ask.

Derek Roy.

He's a local boy and I liked his moxy.

Even since he made the NHL he's shown a lot of his talent and drive but also an unfortunate tedency to embellish.

Hasek, he was my favorite player, loved he was on the Sens, then his pesky groin started acting up. I don't hate him... I just don't look at him the same way anymore even though I don't doubt he was injured during the playoffs... In fact I hate he's not on the team still and we got Gerber... COME BACK TO ME HASEK!!!

someone please slap me...

I liked him.

Every time he'd knock over a defenceman with a huge check WHILE carrying the puck down the wing, I was suitably impressed.

He's just not the same player, even if you put aside the incident.

Same here. Bertuzzi was one of my favorite players in the league. Now, he's a lazy bum even putting aside the Moore incident.

Others:
Scott Neidermayer for taking so long to make up his mind leaving the Devils that the only dmen left on the market were freaking Malakhov and McGillis.

Mario Lemieux. I used to love watching him as a player, but he did nothing but whine his last few years.

Sidney Crosby, was excited to see a talent like him play in the league. But once he started getting the gretzky treatment from the refs, ya know where they start calling 2 minutes for being near Sidney Crosby when he falls.

I never really liked Brodeur but watching him own the flyers for the past decade makes me wish he would go play goalie on the turnpike.
