Whom is the most underrated goaltender in the league?

Pretty self-explanitory

My pick is Dwayne Roloson, narrowly beating about Tomas Vokoun in the underrated goalie department.

Roloson is remarkably calm. Too many people simply write him off as a former journeyman goaltender, but there are few goaltenders in this league I fear when my Canucks play, and Roloson is right near the top of that list. I'm not saying he's Brodeur, but this guy has remarkable composure, and is too often left off 'top goaltending' lists. And yes, his team helps him out plenty, but he's the goaltender for that team, and I don't think I've ever.. EVER seen him give up a bad goal. While I'm sure he has, I've seen the Wild play plenty, and to say that you've never seen a goaltender in this league give up a bad goal is a rarity.

I think Vokoun and Esche are pretty underrated. Just my thoughts.

I agree with you on Roloson, to some extent.

I think Vokoun is easily the most underrated goalie in the league.

I will never understand for the life of me why people would think Esche is underrated. It's the exact same thing that went on with Cechmanek when he was in Philly. Every goalies stats read incredably well because of philly's great defensive system.

vokoun is definitely awesome and doesn't get his due. another that i think deserves some mention is kevin weekes. not so much this year, but last year he looked like he was breaking out until he got hurt... however, that may put him into the 'underperforming' catergory.

Denis, Vokoun, and Weekes are all good choices. Roloson gets sufficient credit in Vancouver but that's just because he seems to play well against the nucks. Based on his position in the allstar balloting, that credit is not league-wide.

Dude, Roloson isn't known very well across the league because he's been a journeyman most of his life until he found his niche with Minnesota. The guy has an AWESOME save percentage and gaa for someone who has little to no offensive forechecking in front of him, a poor defense unit in front of him, and teams like Vancouver peppering him with shots.

This season is not the first good one for Vokoun.
Last year he played 69 games (24 wins) with .918 save % and GAA of 2.20.

David Aebischer.

Don't laugh. A ton of people were - once again - getting ahead of themselves and pleading for the Avs to get a goalie otherwise their season would be lost. Whithout giving the guy a chance to prove whether he was worthy of a #1 job.

Looooong way from here to the playoffs, and a big difference stopping pucks now and then. but he has been very solid, and his team is doing just fine. Yet, it seems like no one cares to acknowledge it. IMO, that's "underrated".

David Aebischer, Mathieu Garon, Kevin Weekes.

How is Esche underrated? There isn't an analyst who won't shut up about how well "backup" Esche is doing. His praises have been sung all season.

Pasi Nurminen and Vesa Toskala are two that come to mind.

Nurminen and Vokoun.

People who haven't seen John Grahame since he was with Boston tend to highly underrate him, too. He's shown profound improvement in the past 12 months.

Based on the crap I read on this site, obviously Jose Theodore. He is both the most overrated and underrated goalie in the NHL depending on who you are talking to.

Thibault. Some of course rate him highly but he seems to go under a lot of peoples radar when it comes to talk about great goaltending. He has grown into a very good goaltender and I would love to see him on a more ambitious team than Chicago.

Agreed.

The only knock I have on Vokoun is not in the net, but when he comes out to play the puck. You can see why he chose to play in goal. He's been getting better, but his best option is to not to try any passes unless absolutely necessary.

Abby Vokoun and Denis

Denis is going to be a top 5 goalie if he goes on a better team or maybe even on columbus gonna be way harder there though.

Weekes. He's the only reason why the Canes have been competitive this year.

He's the worst puckhandling goalie I've seen. The best part is when he goes behind the net to stop the puck. He gets the puck on his stick and then kicks his stick and the puck goes shooting around the boards. It's classic.

Most underrated goalie? I'm going with Vokoun, although I think Osgood, and yes Martin Broduer are pretty underrated as well.
