Well I think it was an accidental trip, that's for sure, but those still get called like normal ones (Kopitar on Semin against Washington I believe would be a decent example of this).

They didn't call that Hurricane getting pulled down trying to get to the empty net though so I guess they balanced it out.

Canes = a team with speed.

Kings = a team with little to no speed.

BIG DIFFERENCE.

2-1-3, not a bad road trip for a team that's 29th in the league. Tonight though they looked like a young team on a long road trip.

The Canes kept forechecking relentlessly and won the battles along the boards (plus faceoffs). The Kings really did appear to be significantly outmatched, even when they were still in the game. The Canes just about clogged up every passing and shooting lane and suffocated the Kings’ offense.

Kings have talent, and the decent vets have experience. We have no speed.

I can't wait for some of these guys to hit their prime. Going on this road trip could have been a disaster, but the youngin's held it together. Good on them, and now it's just a matter of finding a few free agents and letting everything come together, which it should before too long.

We have talent, but not as much as Carolina.

We have experience, but pretty much everyone on that team has won a cup.

Also, like you said, everyone can skate.

It's unfair to compare our team to theirs at this point, hopefully we end up looking like that in a few years.

Is it speed (i.e., they just have players that skate faster) or the simplicity of their game (north to south) with players that understand and execute that style that makes them appear fast. The one aspect of Crawford's system that reminds me of Murray (and which I disliked so much) was the failure to play a north to south game. There is so much action along the boards that plays seem to start and end there. The team refuses to play in the middle of the ice and attack and defend there.

When any team plays from the boards 5 on 5 or on the PP, they will seem slower because there is a lot of start and stop. The Canes don't do that. They point, skate and go.

I think it's a combination of those two things.

Agreed. Even in the games Burke has lost, he has looked way better than Cloutier and Garon looked. I feel "comfortable" with Burke in the net and you can tell the team does too. That being said, I seriously hope DL offers Burke a deal for next year.

We did pretty damn well, defensively, but had no offensive drive.

It was a defensive duel and they won.

They mentioned some stats... We're tied for 2nd in points allowed in February, averaging 2 per game.

That oughta set up a 6+ goal loss to Anaheim now that I've jinxed it.

Thoughts after returning from the game:

I really thought O'Sullivan would show up in front of his home-state crowd, but he severely disappointed. You can see how fast he is, but he almost looked afraid of the puck. The guy is going to have to want it more in this league.

Jason Ward had no chemistry on Anze's line. Crawford needs to find Anze and Brown a more skilled linemate. I really like Brown's play. He's making things happen.

The Kings had very little sustained pressure in the Canes' zone. Chalk it up to the end of a long road trip, I guess. It felt good to cheer on the Kings out here in NC, at least.

That's pretty funny, because I seriously hope DL entertains offers for Burke's services at the deadline. The guy deserves one last shot at playoff hockey.

I think Crawford should just keep O'Sullivan on Kopitar's line. Don't screw with it, just keep like that for the rest of the year. From what I've seen, O'Sullivan has played his best alongside Kopitar.
