From today's Gazette:
"The Canadiens finished the game with Steve Bégin, Patrice Brisebois and Markov in the clinic. Bégin left in the first period when he reinjured his left shoulder and will be re-evaluated today. Brisebois was limping with a groin injury and could be out for a while. Markov took a puck off the foot, but said he was OK."
Ouch. Losing both Breezer and Begin would be a big loss. Anytime someone hurts their groin it's always scary cause it seems to be one of those season long nagging injuries. Hopefully they give Breezer the time to rest it propoerly before coming back.
I've never been a big fan of old Breeze-by but I will readily admit he's been very strong for us the last 10 games or so and has been pretty consistent all year long. I just hope we see Souray and Markov pick up the slack instead of giving an increased to role to Rivet or Quintal. I guess Komi will get some more starts as well.
Another question begging to be answered is who gets called up if Breezer is out a couple or more weeks? Might we see Hainsey and Komi both playing with the Habs in the near future or will CJ be unwilling to have two rooks on the roster and call up Dykhuis?
Bring on Komi!!! Tough break for the Habs, PB has been playing much better so far this season, and as we all know from the past the Habs can be snakebit on the injury front. Hopefully they will re-call Hainsey... Karl Dhykuis is not in the future plans and will probably be traded for picks to Pittsburgh.(Wishful thinkin')
It's such bad luck because Breezer has been our best puck-moving Dman this year. Ahead of Markov. That's actually a problem as even though Brisebois has been very strong this year, Markov has the talent to leave him in the dirt, which he hasn't done at all so far. Will Markov be one of those typical offensive Dman that simply cannot adapt to a defensive system? Hope not (but this is off topic sorry).
Anyway I'm glad that Komisarek will be able to play by "default", even though in my mind he earned his spot already so there's a sweet divine justice after all.
I hope they call up Hainsey too if this injury is prolonged for weeks. And finally I hope Brisebois will not rush his come back. A groin injury not healed properly will bother the player for the whole year. It's imperative he rests all the time it takes (if we continue to win there will be less pressure).
