Kings re-sign Armstrong for 2 more Years

http://www.lakings.com/2,5305.ftm

Im not quiet sure how I feel about this. It depends on the money. If he is making more then a million then it may not be worth it. But Im sure if it wasnt a good eal Lombardi wouldnt have signed him. So lets hope its between 800,000 and 950,000. If he gave him 1.7 like they were saying on the Radio I may have a problem with that.

I somewhat called it haha. Unless this is a sign and trade. As I wrote I do not believe DL wants(ed) to move Armstrong

As it says in the quote I've had in my signature:

Gritty and resilient are polite ways of saying cheap and mediocre.

Interesting that the announcement didn't include the traditional "Derek is a valuable member of our team and we are thrilled..." comments.

4M total for Armstrong? God I hope this isn't true. The whole point of the guy was that he was a cheap passing center. Now he is an expensive passing center....

What the heck is up with our GM and overpaying players? First Cloutier now Armstrong?

Definitely didn't see this coming.....Armstrong isn't the worst player on the Kings but I was hoping he could have been dealt in favor of a pick.

Hopefully it is a sign and trade....

Nice payday for Derek. I don't know... at least 500K too much, IMHO.

I certainly hope so. Im sure we will get a real #2 center next year or a 1A 1B type thing one two punch. And when his roll is lowered he wont be worth that. I really hope they are wrong. Im not even quiet sure he would beat out McCauley for 3rd line duty. Just doesnt make sense. I guess there is no room for Lundmark now?

If that is truly the contract wow.... He has done pretty well this year, but has gottent to play with Cammalleri and Frolov. I am afraid what DL is going to pay Stuart and some others if this is true. DL seems to like wasting CAP space

As you wrote it, DL said it... countless times... including at the most recent breakfast. They love what this guy means to the organization. What can you say? Every team needs a Derek Armstrong... unfortunately, there are 29 other teams that don't have him.

I would HOPE it is 1.9 to 2.1M for 2 years rather than 1.9 to 2.1M per year.

Yeah, I bet he's just PISSED OFF that his center that digs the puck out for him and sets him up, along with Fro, for his goals, thus padding his future contract, is getting his only big contract.

Obviously, DL feels as though a veteran centerman, character guy, who can put up 50-60 points, is a good deal at $2M.

My other question is the center position next year. Kopitar is #1, McCauley fits in a #3 or #4, so does that make Armstrong the #2...? That Cammy, Frolov line works well, but that's assuming they resign Cammy and don't trade him. And who will center the forth line...More moves to come.

I've always appreciated Armstrong's hard work, but felt he was in a little over his head when asked to center the either of the top two lines. Granted this year has been his best and he deserves credit for it. But I can't help but wonder what affect it had on him knowing he was looking at free agency after this season. Based on that alone, IMO the Kings have overpaid him if the numbers jobberdobber mentioned are correct.

Since he was re-signed during the season, the cap hit would be prorated into this years cap like Matty's was last year. So Army's "cap" salary will be less then his real salary for the next two years.
