who is mike smith???

this guy has been unbelieveable against anaheim and again against detroit. i've never even heard of him before. Turco has been struggling lately, any chance this guy can steal the starting job in dallas. I also would like to ask dallas fans if this guy has been this good in the 14 games he's played or is he just on fire now?

Everytime I've seen him, he has looked great. He played in the OHL I believe, and he was a 5th rounder.

Nice late round steal, a la Miller.

none of the goals that beat him tonight were his fault. One was a insane play by zetterberg and another one he was screened by 3 players, he still looks pretty good.

He was great against the Oilers. Until Bergeron tagged him square in the face with a howitzer.

And he stayed in for the rest of that game too. He earned a concussion from that shot.

Smith is from Verona, Ontario, just north of Kingston. Never played in the OHL I believe. Lots of local press following his season here. Verona is a one street town. I wouldn't even call it a town, more like a hamlet. Good to see guys like that get to the show.

He got pulled during the 2nd intermission. (I was there so I didn't hear whether it was from the concussion or if it was from his play)

Mike Smith has looked like a starter in the games I've seen him.

He will be a starter next year somewhere I bet, does Dallas have any other good young goalies in there system that could backup Turco?

Hell no. Cupboard's bare in terms of NHL-ready quality goalie prospects.

A lot rides on this year's playoffs - yet again. If Turco continues his disappearing act, I wouldn't be surprised if certain moves were made. Smith's looked far better lately.

My thoughts exactly. You have to wonder just how many chances Turco will get to 'prove himself' in the postseason.

I really like this kid Smith so far.

Bieksa knows who Mike Smith:

Just kidding, great goalie, he and Backstrom have been spectacular this season, they can step in when their starter is having an off night, and still give their teams a chance to win.

It really has been the Year of the Backup, lol

Smith, Backstrom,Holmqvist, Mason (via injury, but still impressive), Emery.....a lot of quality netminding there!

Dallas showcasing Smith? Nah. We've got Stephan, Ellis and Silverthorn in the minors, but I don't think any of them are nearly as ready or as good as Smith is with Dallas.

Well that's what I thought when they first brought him up and played him in as many games as they did. Maybe Turco is more injured than people know.

I remember his picture on the Houston Aero's website when he played with them. Looked like a freaky clown...
