It is clear from those stats that Comrie is the most important player on the team.

He does add another offensive dimension so teams can't just focus on Spezza/Heatley much in the same way Havlat added another dimension to the offense.

I like Comrie
His game is pretty simple. Passes when it's there, shoots when it's not.
He's reliable.

I can not believe Comrie who keeps scoring with only 11 minutes of ice time is not on the power play. Before Spezza and Fisher got back Comrie was leading the power play and our % went way up. Now with them back he is on the 3rd line and not on the power play and our power play has been awful. He got 2 chances last night, one when Fisher was in the box for fighting and then with Heater, Spezza and Alfie and Redden on the point. What did he do, just score immediately. Murray has to get this 2 time 30 goal scorer and one time 20 goal scorer who is only 26 years old up into the top six forwards and on the power play.

I agree. This guy deserves more ice time. I don't know what Murray is thinking some times.

What I really like about him is how many goals he scores in the crease or around the net.

For such a small guy, he really has no fear of the front of the net.

I agree and again.... these guys; Comrie, Schaefer and Eaves produce on the powerplay... but for some reason, these guys; Fisher and Neil keep getting all the PP time on the 2nd unit.

Hmmm, Comrie, Schaefer and Eaves. I actually like the sounds of that as an even strength line too. Let's give it a shot!

I think Comrie should be given a shot to play on Spezza's wing, especially on the PP, which should be: Spezza, Heatley, Comrie, Alfie, Redden.

Comrie could work the give and go nicely with Spezza. He is good at finishing in front of the net, so could be a good guy for Spezza to set up there, and could pick up rebounds, too.

Pair them with either Vermette (for defense), or Schaefer (for board work).

Then we could pair up Heatley and Alfredsson, who work really well together, with either Kelly, or Fisher at centre.

Keeping in mind how well Kelly and Vermette play together, and Alfie plays well with Heatley, and Alfie also plays well with Fisher, how are these lines...

Heatley--Fisher--Alfredsson
Schaefer--Spezza--Comrie
Vermette--Kelly--Neil
Schubert--McAmmond--Eaves

That's pretty balanced: 2 good scoring lines, and 2 grind lines, one of which can also score.

Another option would be...

Heatley--Fisher--Alfredsson
Kelly--Spezza--Comrie
Schaefer--Vermette--Neil
Schubert--McAmmond--Eaves

or...

Heatley--Kelly--Alfredsson
Schaefer--Spezza--Comrie
Vermette--Fisher--Neil
Schubert--McAmmond--Eaves

or...

Heatley--Vermette--Alfredsson
Kelly--Spezza--Comrie
Schaefer--Fisher--Neil
Schubert--McAmmond--Eaves

(or use this combo, but switch Kelly and Schaefer)

Comrie hasn't been on the powerplay at all except for that 5 on 3 last night and he scores a goal. Murray is not putting him in the greatest situation to succeed and he still manages to produce. He should be on the powerplay at all times, and even though he is developing chemistry with Vermette, I'd like to see him given a shot with Heatley and Spezza, since Murray doesn't seem to want to put him with Alfie.

Murray's primary concern about PP units seems to be not disrupting normal lines with them. He loves having two lines that function as units 1 and 2. I understand that that's convenient, but I don't understand doing it at the expense of better PP players (for example, as someone else said, someone like Fisher isn't ideal for the PP). I wouldn't mind Comrie getting a shot with Heatley and Spezza, but at this point I just want him on the PP, period.

As an Oilers' fan, I suppose I should have a seathing, pre-ordained hate for any team that claims Comrie as one of their own.

As a hockey fan, howver, the addition of Comrie gives Ottawa back their rightfully deserved offensive juggernaut. I say rightfully deserved because even I was choked when Ottawa had to let go of Havlat; a player who had been developed through the Ottawa system.
