OT: Forsberg Traded to Nashville

Sorry mods, for the OT post but I thought we could at least get a quick (1 night?) discussion on our big divison rival superstar on being traded to Nashville.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=196374&hubname=

He was on the ice tonight for the pre-game warmup and is now scratched.

Rumored deal:

To Phi: Ryan Parent, Scott Upshall, 1st Round Pick, 3rd round pick
To Nsh: Peter Forsberg

thats a sh** load to trade for PF, but like many have said they are probably more desperate than other teams to win and win now, and get people in the stands..

if in fact this deal is real, what do you guys think would the Rangers have to put up to get him; what deal put together in our organization is comparable to what Nashville is going to give up?

I'm pretty much with everyone else. They gave up a good amount, but if it gets them the cup it's worth it. If fans don't show up NOW in Nashville, they don't deserve to keep the team.

agreed would not want to give up that much for an ufa. maybe there are hidden future considerations in the deal, like the flyers send the preds something if Forsberg goes somewhere else, maybe Umberger or some young player.

nice return for philly.

is anyone else starting to fear this division?

Pittsburgh's talent speaks for itself.

With Carter, Richards, Piktanen, Weber, ect the flyers are strarting to put somthing together.

Lou always manages to ice a good team, and we're already starting to see the new generation of devils in Parise and Zajac.

I sure hope Maloney and Sather know what they're doing, because the division isn't going to do them any favors.

Not good to see a division rival load up like that. Not good at all.

This is exactly what I was afraid would happen. Can not believe how Nashville overpaid. Whether they go all the way or not too much to pay for a guy who is one rut in the ice from UFA status. They better sign him long term, but again, that is just as bad as trading the farm in the 1st place.

Hopefully this is another indication that we intend to stay the course. Nashville overpaid because they are still not drawing and need to make a big splash in the playoffs. Anyone know the status of their GM's contract. If he's on an expiring contract it would explain alot.

P.S. I'm glad we did not get him.

Jagr is a bigger name than Forsberg & I think hes a better player.. Do you think he could bring in more?

NOT SAYING I WANNA TRADE HIM, I DONT.

Just wanna see if you guys think we would get more than that....

Whew. That's my first thought.

Huge payment for Nashville, but they are in a position to make a run and they have the assets to make this move.

I'm not really concerned with what the Flyers get in the deal, that's not something NYR can control, we just have to take care of our own end. Besides, the Flyers will always collapse in goal.

Great trade for Philly. They really got the most out of an asset.

Hand's down, mainly because of health.

If I'm a Flyers fan I am very happy.

If I'm a division rival fan (which I am) I'm concerned.

Philly has a VERY nice cupboard of young players.

I've said all along that people will be surprised by how much Philly would get back if they traded Forsberg.

With NYR restocking the youth..Pitts with all the studs...Flyers with all these nice young players & Lou still running the Devils and how he always finds gems in the draft.... the Islanders must be scared for the years ahead....

I know the Fishsticks have some good prospects but I would place them last in our division when it comes to prospects/young studs... any thoughts on my order?

1. Pitts
2. NYR
3. Philly (maybe 2nd now after that trade...?)
4. Devils
5. Islanders

Al Morganti reported that Parent has really bad chronic back problems. This might not be as GREAT a deal for Philly as some think. Bulging disk apparantly.

Yup. I've agreed with you the whole time, too. I don't see how this surprised anyone.

I'd put us 4th as of now. Philly's talent is alot more established (and probably has a higher average ceiling) than our's, and I just have more faith in Lou than I do in the ranger's brain trust.

I'm glad you were right because there is noway with his physical issues is he worth that price. On the flip side it would appear that it has become a sellers market. After all any GM who over pays can point to this trade as having driven up the price of deadline deals.

Did I hear Eric Staal for Rachunek & Malik?

Thank God We Didnt Do Anythying Like That....a Payment Like That Would Hurt Us For Another 7 Yrs........you Have To Remember...sooner Or Later All These Young Studs Are Gonna Demand Big Contracts....theres No Way Pitts And Philly Will Be Able To Keep All Their Young Guns When Its Time To Hand Out Raises
