Before today I really thought Gainey might do something to shake up the team or improve us somehow.
Right now, I can honestly see him letting go of some players for picks & prospects.
Believe me, I'd rather the latter happen but although my heart says "The habs will win the cup" my mind says "We're gonna miss the playoffs"
If what we saw today with the Forsberg an example of what's the price's going to be for GOOD rentals, Gainey HAVE to trade our impending UFA (or at least try)...
I mean, if you can land a 1st, a 3rd, Upshall (1st round pick) and Parent (1st round pick also) for Forsberg... you can at least get a 1st rounder and a GOOD prospect for a guy like Souray...
Gainey won't move....his ship is sinking and he is doing nothing about it
We are just in stormy seas right now. You don't abandon ship in the middle of a storm. Gainey will stay the course, make some minor corrections and keep sailing. The bulk of changes will occur in the off season. That said this weekend should tell Gainey alot about whether he's selling large or buying small.
I just got off the phone with one of my top sources at the Bell Centre, he told me "Gainey won't move, or if he does it will be a very minor trade". He also told me he would re-sign Rivet.
Extremely good sources have had Gainey discussing with Joe Nieuwendyk for the '' playoff run '' although Joe's back is still giving him ALOT of trouble so this may not go down ... Habs would have to give Florida a compensation Draft pick ( 3rd or 4rth )
Habs are asking about Guerin and Tkachuk but the asking price is Michael Ryder, Perezhogin and an un-named goalie prospect ( Halak ) ...
Habs have inquired about Martin Gelinas, Panthers want a second and a good mid-prospect
And the star of the show ........
Habs and Chicago
Tuomo Ruute and Martin Havlat
to the Habs
For ... get ready for this folks ...
Andrei Markov ( or Shelly ), Ryder a 1st Round pick and Kyle Chipchura or Kostitsyn...
Rumours have it Koivu will abandon his captainship by the end of the year if the Habs don't make the playoffs .
These come from pretty much friends, associates, buddies etc ... lol !
who knows ... maybe it'll be one of those teams ...
If your prediction materializes, your earn serious bragging rights
My sources tell me Rick Nash is coming to Montreal in a mega-blockbuster deal involving Samsonov, Rivet, Ryder and a 1st round pick. (neo3)
folks this ship is sinking, and going nowhere , the aprty is over , our core players
aren`t that good . The bottom line is simple, we can`t come back with the same
team this year . If we sneak in this year , we are done in one round - who cares .
Bob start with who you want to keep , and move on. Think with your head and not
your heart. WE NEED A BOLD GUTSY MOVE , if it means Souray , Koivu , whatever
do what it takes to move forward the right way. I am not here to predict the trades, but clearly this core isn`t working , its been together for a few years , some are in thier 30`s now , so it`s not that we can wait for better things. We have some kids in the funnell , bring up Kosty and see what he can do for once, not a cup of coffee.
Burke did it in one year - it is not a 5 year rebuilding plan, but if you don`t start somewhere , it will be in time.
