Done, but doubt Edmonton bites or Saku waives the no trade clause. Exchange Koivu for Kovalev and its a no brainer for me.

NOOOOO !!!

Smythe hates the idea of playing in MTL and will never sign here (all those years of Big George as his teammate and all those horror stories about teh media / fans). As well, what about teh center position on the team...we need to upgrade, not downgrade that position.

I just have a hard time seeing Koivu in any other jersey. It's the same for the Oilers, they don't want to see Smyth in any other jersey.

Yeah...great deal

We lose our '#1' center AND our #1 dman for

a UFA to be in Smyth and a young still developing prospect.

Thanks, but no thanks...

Although I think a deal with Edmonton could be done, Raffi Torres is a player i'd like to Habs to target

A deal like this, more than likely ends up looking like this starting next year

Koivu + Markov

for

Smid and a 3rd round pick

Anyone still interested in making this deal?

Smyth is overrated, is far from being a 1pt/g guy. He's Koivu no2, bigger but slower with the same heart...a better scorer but poorer passer...a 65-70pts scorer...and he isn't sign for next year...Markov would be a total Edm steal in that one...no way!

Conditional upon Smyth re-signing with us, and probably improving the pick a little bit (though that isn't a deal-breaker), I would do it. Having Smid allows Montreal to focus on 2009 since we clearly aren't in "win now" phase, especially since all our players are UFAs after this season. Smyth is younger and better than Koivu. Losing Markov would hurt, but at least it's to a Western Conference team where he might re-sign.

I'm not sure about this deal but I would like to land Jarret Stoll. I always been high on this guy and if we becomre sellers, guys like Markov and Souray has tons of value we may get some good stuff. We all know that Edmonton is looking for a rental D.

Either way...point is, we still lose Markov + Koivu and have Smid + some prospect who might never make it??

No thanks...

Smid is going nowhere. Lowe is hoping he will turn into a Pitkanen/Bowmeister type of player.
Koivu is a grenade that the Oilers will not jump on.

Lowe also hoped that Isbister would turn in to Bertuzzi. It didnt happen.

Likely scenario with Smid is that he wont even be as good as Markov.
