"Hossa ATL Athlete of the Year
The Thrashers' Marian Hossa was presented with the Atlanta Sports Award for Professional Athlete of the Year last night at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Presenting the award were Georgia Tech head football coach Chan Gailey and Cliff Minor of AT&T. The black-tie event recognized 11 award recipients for excellence in athletic achievement in 2006."
When you consider his competition for the award, he was going to win it anyway. The only thing Joe Johnson has done for Atlanta sports is potentially put the Hawks and Thrashers in the hands of Steve Belkin who is about as popular here as any league commissioner. Brian McCann was pretty much the only bright spot on a pretty dismal Brave team last season. Note the lack of a Falcons player as a finalist.
