OT: Pitkanen Lays into Avery

Found this funny from Tom Panaccio:

Wondering what touched off Joni Pitkanen's double cross check on Sean Avery in the first period. Okay here it is. We sit behind the glass ice level at Madison Square Garden.

Near the period's end, before a faceoff in the Flyers end, Avery ripped into Pitkanen about his English and called him a "dumb so and so." Pitkanen shot his head up and smiled. After the puck drop, he cross checked Avery viciously to the ice.

As Avery tried to get up, Pitkanen cross checked him high across the back again.

I think Joni understands English just fine. Don't you?

I think this needs to be said before someone starts posting stupid trade proposals in this thread, at the start of the broadcast on MSG the Philly GM told them, "put this on the record joni Pitkanen isnt going anywhere"

and it's always nice to see avery on the ice writhing

Yeah usually, though a day or two before Federov was traded Burke said in a radio interview he won't be traded.

Back to the Avery thing, I was thinking we sure got rid of a lot of cheap players recently from our conference. Marchment (retired?), Gauthier, Avery, Ruutu etc...

Philly has no reason to trade him though. it would just be pure stupidity.

now if only nonis would ship Matt Cooke out to the east coast so we don't have to watch his act 8 times a year.

I would not argue that point. As bad as I would love to have Pitkanen, Philly needs him almost or as much as we do going forward.

That would be nice, that would help finish cleaning all the pesky junk out of the basement so to speak.

Exactly, it's akin to us trading Hemsky or Smid

Yes it is. There is absolutly no reason for Philly to trade Joni, but he is exactly what the Oilers need as shown by all the wishful thinking

Management's still pushing for him despite the no from Philly, according to Eklund.

Bobby Clarke used this tactic numerous times. For example Mike Comrie! No I dont want a player like Mike Comrie, what will I do with a player like Mike Comrie? A week later, he acquired Mike Comrie.

I rest my case.
