Team Canada was the Allan Cup champs in those days. Perhaps look up Allan Cup winners.

I thought the thread might be asking for an imaginary Team Canada roster if Canada was allowed to send their professional players to int'l compettitions. So, take a year, 1956, how would Canada have looked ?

Richard,Moore,Beliveau,Geoffrion,Harvey,Kelly,Howe , Sawchuck,Plante come immediately to mind.

I think Ted Lindsay playing international hockey in 58 may have led to Bobby Clarke some day getting a Nobel Peace prize in comparison.

A team that sticks in my mind from that era is the 1958 Whitby Dunlaps who were one of the last Canaduan Allan cup teams to win the Worlds. If you do a google search you wull find them easily. Canada was so strong in those days. Harry Sinden was rheir captain. Guys like Charlie Burns & Connie broden went on to the NHL. Sid Smith was a former NHL all star. They regained supremacy for Canada. It was a big deal & I can still vividly remember the team picture.

Good stuff. Does anybody know why Canada did not compete in 53 or 57?

Canada and the U.S. boycotted the `57 tournament, held in Moscow, to protest the U.S.S.R's involvement in Hungary.

here is what wikipedia has to say about 1953.

On January 12, 1953, Canadian Amateur Hockey Association president W.B. George stated Canada would not be sending a team to the 1953 World Championships. George told the press: "Every year we spend $10,000 to send a Canadian hockey team to Europe to play 40 exhibition games. All these games are played to packed houses that only enrich European hockey coffers. In return we are subjected to constant, unnecessary abuse over our Canadian style of play."

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_World_Ice_Hockey_Championships"

I don't know whether it's still available online somewhere, but back in 2002 before the Salt Lake City games, there was a pdf-file of the 1960 Winter Olympics official final report (Published by the California Olympic Commission, editor Robert Rubin) with full stats and b&w photos of the Ice Hockey tournament included.

Also, if Canadian teams are your main interest, then at least Andrew Podnieks has written a book "Canada's Olympic Hockey Teams - The Complete history 1920 - 1998", which has all the rosters of all participating countries (Canada's teams have tournament stats and game stats as well).

Anyway, here's the stats on 1960 Olympic team for Canada:

Name GP G A P Pim
Fred Etcher 7 9 12 21 0
Bob Attersley 7 6 12 18 4
George Samolenko 7 8 4 12 0

Bobby Rousseau 7 5 4 9 2
