Stoll/Pisani Update

Quote:
On the back end, the Oilers can send out either Gilbert or Mathieu Roy to fill the hole left by Marc-Andre Bergeron, who was dealt to the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Daniel Tjarnqvist, who had been out with a groin injury, has been skating back in Edmonton, and could join the team in Ottawa.

He is the only veteran nearing a return.

Jarret Stoll is still struggling with post-concussion symptoms stemming from a hit he took back on Feb. 1.

Fernando Pisani, who took a shot in the head on Feb. 11, now has a bacterial infection to fight through, and Ethan Moreau is on the road and skating with the team, but is still weeks away.

He is to see the surgeon that repaired his shoulder on Feb. 21.
What is a bacterial infection?

Ugh..

Sounds like Pisani has a Staph infection. Not good news by any means - he could be out for the season. Common injury among hockey players that takes place when an open wound is constantly having sweaty equipment shoved onto it. Thornton almost lost a hand to it a few years ago, and it's the reason that McKee missed large chunks of the playoffs.

What depressing news. I hope Pisani and Stoll will heal quickly and fully. As for Moreau, I had the same surgery he had, but 4 months earlier. Given the treatment available to him and how well I feel, I am not too worried about his return. It takes time, but the operation is awesome for someone with shoulder problems!

Could you drop the gloves right now, if needed? What about throwing in a hell of a forecheck?

Just trying to put things in perspective here!

Maybe a bit presumptuous. No? A bacterial infection could be anything.

Well we are pretty well out of the playoffs might as well be cautious with these guys and make sure they are good and healthy. Stoll said in that one radio interview he thinks coming back too soon from his earlier injury helped contribute to the concussion.

Pretty close. I think that with "decent" attention and care he would be ready within a month. I am sure he has has excellent care; and, he is supposed to be in great shape. It's the guys who've been hit in the head I am worried about.

Thanks, this is the best news (for what it's worth in rough relation to Moreau) I've heard all day.

I'm more concerned with with Stolls injury than anything else.
At a time when he'd just dicocered where his real game lay (his physicality) he's been saddled with the worst injury possible (IMO) not once, but twice. For him to still be suffering with post-concussion syndrome is not a good sign for his future.
It may change the way he has to play the game, from being a physical guy who goes into the tough areas of the ice & finishes his checks, to a more perimeter player (similar to Lindros - he was never the same post-concussions).
And that's a real shame for Stoll & for the Oilers, as he was really beginning to show everyone he was a complete package......very tough & physical, fast, a cannon of a shot, & a good PP quarterback.
I have an uneasy feeling about this Stoll injury.

Oilers are scared of rushing Pisani back because they don't want to make the same mistake they made with Stoll..

From the Team 1260.

I believe there's a lot of posters here who owe me an apology. Cough.

I'm sure Stoll will be fine, he's young and in good shape that should bode well for his body being able to recover fully. I know that head injuries can be a little scary, but there are a lot of people that are as good as new after giving the injury the proper time to heal. If I remember properly Lindros' concussion weren't exactly handled the best, hopefully if Stolly takes his time he'll be ready to go no looking back soon.

On Team 1260 they just said Pisani is on the bike but Bob said Stoll looks bad and might be done for the season. I wouldn't blame the Oil one bit for shelving him if this road trip continues like this.

Damn Stoll you should have had a visor on.

Seen Eric Lindros post 1998?

Stoll was rushed and the organization admitted it. Gotta love the Oilers. Idiots.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that Pisani was put on IR today.

I have the same uneasy feeling about Stoll, but I think it's just that I'm absolutely terrified at even the slightest possibility that this incident was the beginning of a short career.

Bleh, absolutely horrible news about Stoll. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a Deadmarsh-type situation where he simply just can't come back.

Anyone remember the game where Moreau got injured vs Detroit. He went after Markov for a vicious hit on Stoll earlier in the game. Wasn't Stoll knocked silly from that game. Could that have been an unreported concussion on Stoll.

Yeah, wasn't he flipped and kind of landed on his head? I'll grab the vid from Youtube.

Here's the vid.

You wonder if that was an unreported concussion, don't you.

Concussions...

are the most nasty of injuries not only for their initial impact but the possible lingering effects even when the athlete thinks their healed...at least with a broken bone or seperation you have a timetable/guideline on how long your out and the how long rehab would take.

Defintely not good news for either Stoll or Pisani but getting Tjarnqvist back in the mix is at least a small positive.
