GDT: Edmonton @ Ottawa 02.20.07 @ 5:30pm MST

Edmonton: 28-26-5, 61pts VS Ottawa: 34-22-3, 71pts

Game Day: Tuesday February 20th 2007
Game Time: 5:30pm MST
Radio: 630 Ched
TV: Molson Canadian Oilers Pay Per View. Click here for more info on ordering the game. Or you can watch the game at any one of these fine locations. And sportsnet East for those of you in Ontario.

A date with Minnesota is looming on the final game of the road trip and the Oilers can potentially close the gap to six points plus a game in hand with a victory tonight. The Wild are in Dallas to face the red-hot Stars.

ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton – Ethan Moreau (shoulder) is out. Jarret Stoll (concussion) is out. Fernando Pisani (concussion) is out. Petr Nedved (knee) is doubtful. Daniel Tjarnqvist (inflamed pubic bone) is doubtful. Ottawa – Ray Emery (suspension) is out.

OILERS TO WATCH: Raffi Torres did a good job setting the physical tone early against Toronto with four hits in the first period. He had five hits total and three shots on goal. Shawn Horcoff followed up his performance on Thursday night where he had a goal and eight shots with another strong game. He had seven shots to lead the Oilers. Marc Pouliot had arguably his best game as a pro Saturday with five shots, a goal and a +2 rating in almost 15 minutes of ice-time. He also led all Oilers in the faceoff circle at 64%.

SENATORS TO WATCH: Goaltender Martin Gerber is expected to get the start once again tonight for the Sens since starting netminder Ray Emery will be serving the third game of his three-game suspension tonight. On Saturday, Gerber played back-to-back games for the first time since November 11 & 13 and has now won each of his last five starts. Gerber has never beaten the Oilers in three all-time meetings (0-3-0) but has only allowed four goals combined in those three games. (1.34 goals-against average). Former Oiler Mike Comrie has enjoyed a resurgence since being traded to Ottawa. In 18 games, he has eight goals and 13 points.

FAST FACTS: Since the Ottawa Senators rejoined the NHL in 1993, no NHL team has had a better record versus the Sens than Edmonton at 12-6-4. In recent times, the Sens have fared even worse with a 3-11-4 record since December 1995. Last time these two teams met was back on January 14, 2006 and Ottawa came out on top 5-3. With a win tonight, Senators head coach Bryan Murray would become the fourth head coach in NHL history to win 600 games.

QUOTABLE: "We don't look at it like we're selling off or giving up. That's not the case," said Ethan Moreau, "We realize the situation where things weren't just working out with him (Bergeron) and they made a decision to make a trade. It doesn't send a message at all that we're sellers."

My keys to the game: Just win.

According to Joanne Ireland's article today, both Gilbert and JFJ will be in the lineup tonight.

Good Luck! Whoever wins, ill be happy. As an Ottawa fan, thats self-explanatory. However, i desperately want to see the Oilers and all Canadian teams in the playoffs. The Oilers need to make a great playoff drive to get in to the post-season, but they can do it.

Edmonton has had our number for years. What many sens fans think is that this game is already in the bag for two points. However, I think it will be a close match and Edmonton has a great chance of coming out with a win. Ideally, if that is the case, make it overtime so two Canadian teams can enjoy a three point spread.

One thing im really impressed with is Edmonton's penalty kill! With Ottawa's dismal power play recently, I think this game will be decided by specialty teams.

Great GDT Rin!

I reckon we'll pull a win, Mac-T rallies the troops, somehtings gotta give:

5-2 Oilers

Thoreson (just T-funk )
Lupul
Smyth
Gilbert
Torres

Sens:

Redden
Spezza

Other highlights in the game:

-Neil and Stortini fight, fight of the year candidate

-Hemsky dangles and gets a 3 point night

-Torres starts to get hot and goes on a massive point streak

-(probably less likely) Redden wants to be an Oiler for life from this moment on in his career....

-Gilbert can QB a PP

-Winnie with a huge hit

-Gator with his best game of the season

-Hejda plays great

-Spezza + Heatley play good, but not good enough

-A-Train blocks 5 shots in the game to get a star..

He's a long way away, last I heard he was still suffering from post concussion symptoms...I don't know if he's even hit an exercise bike yet.

To be honest, I'll be surprised to see him on the ice again this season. The Oilers CANNOT afford to rush him back again, he's much too important to their future plans.

Stortini has played center at every level except the NHL. I've been quietly hoping they'd play him between Jacques and Winchester at some point this season.

How could you not be tempted to throw out a line that's, on average, 6'4" in height, and a combined 660lbs?
