The Original Six: New York Rangers

ESPN's Scott Burnside evaluated the state of the orginal 6 teams

On the Rangers outlook

Quote:
The great myth in New York has been fans won't put up with a rebuilding team, and that has been, in part, the justification for perpetually trying to build externally. Maloney doesn't buy it.

"I really do believe that they'll put up with growing pains," he said. "But nobody should have to put [up] with [them] for five to 10 years. I think we've turned a corner."

Over the next two seasons, Maloney expects the roster to boast seven or eight homegrown players, something that would have been unheard of under the old Rangers philosophy

RangerBoy: I've followed this team for forty years. With minor exceptions, management has never followed the formula. I hope it is not more lip service. Further, management should accelerate the process by selling some older players at the deadline. Thanks as always for your valuable work on articles and info

I hope it's true. I think during the Rangers/Devils game last night they commented that the Devils had 14 home grown skaters on the ice compared to the Rangers 4. That's a huge difference.

Don't disagree but now I feel like teams almost have to with the salary cap. As Edge, and others have said on a number of occasions as well, this next two years is the timeframe where those players acquired in the purge of 2004 and the really talented prospects should be ready (Staal, Dubinsky, Korpikoski, Sauer, etc.)
