First off.

Price is a very good goalie and will be an NHLer. No one can say Brule is better, nor can they say Price is better. Both performed as junior superstars. The poster above is right, Brule has been a good player at the NHL(not very good, but good). He gets about 6 minutes a game, what do you people expect? Brule and Price will both be first line/unit players in their prime.

Kopitar is already a star, and really looks like the 2nd best player in that draft right now.

if Brule is such a good player, right now, why then is he only getting 7 min of ice time per game with the likes of Shelley on a team that is one of the worst in the league?

there are several young players his age (or close to it) on better teams that have nonetheless earned more minutes and better line assignements than he has (latendresse, staal, kopitar, bernier, radulov, perry... and I'm sure a few others).
I heard on the radio today that Brule showed up to camp out of shape, and that was likely why he played so poorly to start the season.
In any event, if he can't get more than 7 min/game playing for Columbus, than clearly he's not yet a good NHL player... stats don't show everything, but 13 points (6 on the PP) and -18 is not too hot.
some players need to get small amounts of ice-time early in their career. not sidney crosby and ovechkin guys, but guys like brule and latendresse. it can help them early in their careers. it lets them learn the game and gives them a better shot at raching their potential.

Fair point. See also: Jason Spezza.

But, on that point, do guys such as Spezza turn out to be as valuable as a guy who jumped into the NHL at a young age as a starter, like say Luongo or Fleury?

I would think that, at this point in time anyway, most teams would rather have that #1 star goalie than that #1 playmaking center any day of the week. Look at the teams in the playoff hunt and compare them to the teams outside of it, the ones that are well in all have solid goaltending at one point or another.
