It's rumored that the Rangers are back in the running for Brewer.
Along with 10-12 other teams. The Blues want to re-sign Brewer and depending if you believe what you read, the Blues will lock up Brewer by Tuesday
Quote:
Whether Davidson decides to deal before Tuesday's NHL trading deadline — and it's still very likely he will — the Blues are reportedly on the cusp of offering defenseman Eric Brewer a contract extension.
The extension probably will be a multiyear offer worth at least $4 million per season but not exceeding $5 million. If that doesn't satisfy Brewer, 27, the Blues might consider putting him on the trading block before Tuesday's deadline
It doesn't sound like Phoenix will be dealing Morris or Boynton
Quote:
“Obviously we’ve got some guys here that teams may want, two or three guys off the top of my head,” said Gretzky, who named goalie Curtis Joseph and right wing Owen Nolan.
The Rangers have one game before the deadline. The Islanders play Montreal on Saturday afternoon.Toronto is at Philly on Saturday. On Monday,Toronto is at Montreal
I still believe in a major overhaul. Trade the over 30 czech gang. Jagr will fetch(no pun intended) some good picks or players. Nylander and Straka will also command a decent return. With cap space ufa's will join the team. Enough mediocrity. Let's do something bold and constructive. I'm tired of paying for the same old garbage!Build a team around Henke, TYUTIN, Staal, Baranka, The foundation is starting to be in place. Sather, be corageous!
oh and if you tell me i'm not a real fan i bet i've done more to encourage my fandom than you have
I agree. All teams trade to make themselves better. The Rangers time to shine is not now. As hard as it might be to accept it we do not have the players yet to make a strong playoff showing.
I'm not abandoning the Rangers but teams that don't take advantage of a situtation when teams will OVERPAY for players end up being average forever. We have to get better in the future and trading away players is a way of doing that.

We are a average team, less than average maybe.
I agree. Although, if we cheer really loudly perhaps our fortunes will change. YOU GUYS WITH ME?!?!?!

Look at how many scouts were at the Hawks-Sharks last night. That was a boring game

Teams with scouts in the press box included Philadelphia, Edmonton, Toronto, Anaheim, Calgary, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Nashville, Vancouver, Florida, Tampa Bay, Phoenix and the New York Islanders
I'm not against trading the Czech possy, just not this season.
I think that if we do make the playoffs this season, it will do some good for our younger players.
Lundqvist - he was not great in last year's playoffs. A solid playoff performance would help his confidence.
Prucha, Ortmayer, Avery, Hossa, Tyutin, Pock, etc - all of these guys havent done much in the playoffs...a goal for each would be nice! It's the experience they get out of it that will help us in later years when we do contend for a Cup.
I think the game tomorrow will be a huge one to see what's going on. At the same time, I don't think there will be any major moves at the deadline. We're still too much borderline.

Prucha actually did score last year in the playoffs.
STL: Nigel Dawes, Dan Girardi
NYR: Eric Brewer, 4th 2007
Brewer: Rangers get a 27 year old veteran defenseman to help stabilize a backline that has been shaky as of late. He's been logging disgusting amounts of ice time with his last four games being: 30.5, 27, 24.5, 25.5. Can't lie, the pick only helps to soothe the loss of two prospects.
Dawes: With Nigel, we are giving up a prospect that looks to be leapfrogged by others such as Callahan, Byers, Dubinsky, Korpikoski. IMO he is in the same boat as Immonen with management's reluctance to put him in the lineup. At some point, if its not for Brewer, I'd hope Dawes is traded for a younger player not on the UFA horizon.
Girardi: People are gonna prep the gullotine for this one. Personally, I don't think Girardi is a long time Ranger. Or atleast, there are parts of his game that I cannot see him improving. He gets beat way too easy and as we see with Malik/Ward its not something that can be taught over time. He just doesn't have the one on one skills needed by a defender. Plus, Staal/Sanguinetti/Sauer/Baranka all look to offer more than him. Now if he should be going in a deal for an UFA like Brewer is debateable.
For Dolan it doesn't matter if we make the playoffs as long as we keep attendance up as long as possible while pushing for it. Look at other side of the river. Devils are in and there are plenty of empty seats at their arena. If we start selling, people might stop going to the games that would loose all importance. Remember, the fans are much easy to control than that for revenues.
i truly don't want to squeak into the playoffs only to become first round fodder for the Devils or whoever...
I honestly think that we can beat NJ in a seven game series.
If you guys notice, the Devils do wear out when you play a physical game against them. They no longer have a Stevens or even a Daneyko back there. White is not bad...but not that tough. Guys like Rafalski and Martin wear our rather quickly. So in a 7 game series, if we get guys like Orr, Avery, Hollweg, Ortmayer to just pound their D down low...eventually they wont be able to stand it. We already did better in this game on Thursday than the one on Tuesday...just by wearing them out!
I like our chances against them in the playoffs...we just need to make it there, and I think we will.

Yeah, also Jimmy boy wants deperately for the Rangers to make the playoffs so he can raise ticket prices next year
I can see Girardi sticking around for years. He'll be that guy who's just a steady 3-6 defenseman who the fans will fall in love with over the years.
Girardi is the best thing that happens to NYR this season. Tyutin -Girardi is our #1 pair. We have no need for Brewer. Our defense problem is not a problem with defensemen.
