Best hockey uniforms ever

Not exactly the most original idea for a thread, but I wanted to know your choices for best uniform ever. My favorite is the St. Louis Blues road unis from 1979-84:

The 1980s had a ton of great uniforms. My favorite current uniform is the Colorado Avalanche. A guilty pleasure of mine is the Islanders' "Fishsticks" jersey; I also think the 1985-89 Canucks unis are underrated. My favorite non-NHL uniform is the 1990s Windsor Spitfires of the OHL:

To me, NOTHING beats the old Flames' uniform:

I was so mad when they changed it

I love the current Leafs white 3rd jersey , with the old style Maple Leaf. Best current jersey IMO.

Agreed. I really hope they go back to it as the #1 jersey soon. They changed it in 1967, and a lot of good it's done us.

People love to hate the long pants era, but the players loved them. They were more comfortable than the bulky pants (certainly of that era) and with the right jerseys, they looked great. There was a problem with slickness in some styles -- the originals were a stiff plastic which made guys slide excessively when they hit the ice (and ripped after the first stick hit them) -- but by the end, companies were making the shells of a softer fabric which was less likely to act like a crazy carpet.

They only lasted a couple of seasons in the NHL, but were worn by junior teams for years before and after. It was the NHL's reluctance that saw their demise. The concern was that if too many teams were wearing solid black pants (like the Flyers in that photo), it would be difficult for linesmen to call offsides when looking at a mass of legs. Had the league the strength to insist that all teams have unique colour/striping along the sides of their pants, I bet teams would be wearing them today.

It actually became a safety issue as you say.

If you ever wore them (and I did) if you fell I swear you accelerated while on the ice.

Quote:
The pants did make the skaters faster; unfortunately, they were also faster whenever they took a spill and would crash very hard into the boards. The Hartford Whalers joined the Flyers in wearing long pants the following season. At the end of the 1982-83 season, the NHL outlawed the long pants, causing both the Flyers and the Whalers to revert back to the old faithful, time-tested short pants.

Also there were stripes down the legs.

Playing hockey gorwing up my teams wore them probably from age 7 to about age 12 or 13 before the switch was made back to teh short pants.

As a kid it was a helluvalot easier to pull up the one piece long pants than the garter belt/hockey socks etc.

I have a few personal favorites:

5. The red, white and blue Capitals jersey with the stars across the chest and down the arms.

4. The 70's light blue and white Penguins with the circle logo in the middle. The colors were awsome

3. The blue Nordiques were cool because they were so different.

2. The blue and gold Sabres jerseys. Classic

1. My personal favorite were the all white Jets jerseys. They were so suave.

Honorable Mention:
Alanta Flames all red and any Whalers Jersey.

Two of my favorites will always be: a) Hartford's darker teal uniforms before heading to Carolina, and b) Washington's powder blue uniforms after switching from the old red ones.

My all-time favorite:

Loved this one. It got progressively worse with each revision. Thankfully the white uniform stayed intact.

Of the current ones, I really like the Flames' dark. It could be even better if the shoulder patch were smaller and the striping not angled.

Anyone notice that now-defunct teams like Quebec, Hartford, Winnipeg, and the North Stars are always way over represented in these threads? Personally, I wouldn't consider any of them to be good looking jerseys in the first place.
