So we should know what's up within the next twenty minutes, or so?

As I noted on the trade board, Coburn is not in the lineup tonight for the Wolves.

if that happens i'll be pretty pissed off, but i also think that is what we traded as well. Coburn is better then half our defense and is young. To give up on him to get a rental for couple of months is not worth it.

I just heard it is Coburn, for Zidnik (Philly). Spelling may be wrong, sorry.

Zhitnik. He is a solid two-way guy, pretty sure he is not a UFA either. Can move the puck and that is what ATL needs.

Zhitnik is signed through 2008-09 season. His cap-hit 3,5 million per year.

The Thrashers acquired some help on the blue line, trading for veteran defenseman Alexei Zhitnik in a deal that ships defenseman Braydon Coburn to Philadelphia. Coburn was in Chicago (AHL) after playing 29 games with the Thrashers this season.

WORSE TRADE EVER. zhitnik at 3.5 million for another year. And we give up on coburn. Coburn played well here much better then half our D. And we keep SUTTON of all D. LIke great move. This organization just baffles me. DW just made the stupidest move ever.

If this is the move, I'm pretty cool with it.

I saw a lot of Zhitnik's play this season with the Islanders (local tv for me!), he was pretty good. The Islanders moved him (was their #1 defender) mostly to clear out cap space, not really due to bad play. I'll definitely take him in the Thrashers lineup anyday over Hnidy, Sutton, or McCarthy.

If this team wants to get into the playoffs, you need someone else on the back to shoulder the load outside of Havelid because the rest of the guys cannot cut it. Zhitnik has a good shot, and can still be used on the PP eventhough his age is creeping a bit. Forget cap space, this team needs defense and they finally have a player that is better than most the current guys. This is appropriately shift the rest of the people down the depth charts where they SHOULD really be playing at. Finally (or hopefully) Sutton is not a #2 guy on this team, he never should have been in the first place.

I thought the rub was that Coburn has the physical tools but is a bust because his mind isn't there, does that sound about right to you guys?

not to me, i like his play up him. so basically the 2003 draft we blew it. Instead of getting Phaneuf, sutter or seabrook we get Coburn. And instead of at least letting him play here for a year we just trade him after a short stint with the team. He was probably our fastest D skater on the team and could carry the puck.

edit - is zhitnik fast? or slow as well? our overall D speed is so slow thats why we have problems in our own end. We need to address this issue imo.

edit again- k, after calming down, the trade might not be so bad, i just hope we get rid of Sutton now then. We need to get rid of him but i highly doubt it. McCarthy or Hnidy will sit probably which sucks since they are both better then Sutton. De Vries isn't going anywhere since he has won a stanley cup before with hartley right or has won one?

I guess 3.5 million for a #2 defenseman isn't bad and he is signed for two more years. I just hope that coburn doesn't become the Pronger type player people compared to him before. Hopefully Popvovic* and Valabik are good and can contribute next year. At least one of them.

This trade certainly isn't once to cause excitement. Giving up a prospect who has no role on the team for a veteran that might save DW'S job is okay by me, I guess. Could have at least sent some salary back philly's way.
