i doubt esche was dealt to buffalo or even has anything to do with it...otherwise buffalo wouldn't have acquired conklin

I'd be highly surprised if they are done for the day, now that they have almost $3M in cap room and a few high draft picks to play with.
I guess they didn't get any immediately useful straight-up-for-Biron offers.

We had Nashville's first and third.

However, Nashville's first could be in the 28-30 range anyway.

Pittsburgh is getting tougher. Adding Laraque.

I can't believe they only trade Carcillo and an 8th round pick. CG will know about Carcillo.

I like the trade, gives a few months to hammer out a deal, and leaves more $$ to spend on Dmen and center, Giggy was gonna demand a huge salary.
It is obvious that Buff is clearing cap room to make a deal elsewhere

Ok, there's a lot of confusion, It's either your second first round pick or your second. Esche was told he is being traded.

I'm saying Esche traded to Team X and whatever the Flyers got could be sent to the Sabres. Sort of a three-team deal.

If nothing else, an awesome soundbite guy. Food for thought, He has almost an identical record as Miller over the last three years.

If it's a conditional first, based on re-signing Biron, that's cool, or the 2nd straight up.

Esche definitely has to go now.

I'm guessing Leighton is clearing waivers today.

doesn't matter NASH 1st is like 27-30, PHI 2nd is 31-33rd.... not a bad price to try and sign him before anybody else.

i want nitty/biron next year, but you have to ask does biron make nitty a trade commodity?

If it's the Flyers 2nd or Nashville's 1st there really isn't much difference. Realistically they can be back to back picks.

I doubt it. I think one more game of Nitty and then Biron is given the reins.

I'm not sure about this myself. I am almost positive that its a 2nd round pick that becomes a 1st if Biron signs with the Flyers.

We now have 4 NHL goaltenders, and all 4 cannot cross waivers. Esche will be moved or waived at some point today. I think we like Leighton's possible potential and Biron may be a nice mentor to Niittymaki, or he is moved sometime in the future as well -- lots of scenarios here.

You can definately bank on one of the 3 that are here being moved, however.

I dont like it, hes an upgrade but not a big enough upgrade. They should have gone after Giguere. This is a big mistake IMO.

Holmgren has been impressive so far. Wasnít sure if he had it in him to do a good job. While I think they overpaid for Biron it is a good move as long as the draft pick is conditional on him signing. This was the guy they wanted (and myself) and they were aggressive in getting him, that is the attitude to have. He will cost a few million less than giggy so more money to spend elsewhere. This team is very thin up front now so they need more than just a #1 center. Get a solid 2 line winger and a dman who can log 25 minutes on the top pair and they are set. I still want a different coach. Homer should be brought back.

2 weeks ago this team had no nhl ready dman with top 4 potential to speak of, now they have 2 if not 3. They addressed the future on the blueline and now the goalie is set for the next x amount of years. Wonder what Forsberg thinks about the moves.

11:18 - Martin Biron is now on the phone with Duthie. Biron says he was just getting ready for Sabres practice this morning when Regier told him he was going to Philly. Biron says he just had a "good conversation" with Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. Says he's "very excited" to be going to Philadelphia. He says he has "no idea" who or what he was traded for. Biron is VERY diplomatic when asked about how he felt about playing behind Ryan Miller the past 2 years. He says he "wasn't thinking about the trade deadline this past week he was just thinking about surviving the fight with Ray Emery" I like Marty Biron. Biron also says he would be willing to talk to the Flyers right now about a contract.
