Biron is VERY diplomatic when asked about how he felt about playing behind Ryan Miller the past 2 years. He says he "wasn't thinking about the trade deadline this past week he was just thinking about surviving the fight with Ray Emery" I like Marty Biron. Biron also says he would be willing to talk to the Flyers right now about a contract.
For anyone not familiar with Jay Onrait, he's usually a riot and is keeping a blog worth reading throughout the day (especially when HF ***** the bed and you need something to cheer you up instead of reading "database error" over and over).

Is it official that there is a 3-way involving San Jose and St. Louis?? Anyone know the third team?

I think that this might have been a very logical move for us in the long run. Everyone keeps talking about how JS Giguere was a FA, but I don't think Anaheim would have let him go without a fight. Plus, in terms of numbers, Giggy has only been slightly better than Biron in only a handful of games. I personally would have hoped to get Biron a bit cheaper, but I don't think it is a horrible deal if he signs with us.

The numbers:

JS Giggy:
League GP W L T Min GA SA SO GAA Sv%
NHL 343 149 132 43 19745 818 9545 25 2.48 .914

MB:
League GP W L T Min GA SA SO GAA Sv%
NHL 300 134 115 29 16774 707 7803 18 2.53 .909

There relatively similiar with the numbers, different styles but you can't really say one is awfully better than the other. And, I think Biron is a cheaper, safer option over the long haul anyway. If we move Esche for say, a 3rd or 4th, or maybe upgrade one of our picks for something higher, I think its a nice job by Holmgren and Co.

Sign him before the deadline, or ship him out. It's that simple.

If we can sign Biron I have no issues with us losing Nashville's first pick, it wont be a great pick and this draft isnt great. It wouldnt make sense for us to give up a high pick for a goalie when we already have 3 when we have no post-season hopes and may lose the keeper.

TSN now said St. Louis-San Jose trade does NOT involve a third team.

I think taking someone like Marty will be nice for team chemistry as well. Lets face it...we're an extremely young team. I think Marty will love being here and growing with the team. To save 2m/yr and have someone who's going to play his heart out for the #1 spot. I like it...AS LONG AS WE SIGN HIM!

I don't think its a necessary move -- I'd rather see more of Potulny, who I thought had some nice games earlier in the season.

ESPN is saying we gave up a 2nd round pick which is a relief to me that we didnt move a 1st, even though I wouldnt have a huge problem with it, although how big a differance would there be between our 2nd and Nashville's 1st in this years draft?

as long as they sign him to something reasonable, i guess the 1st rounder is alright to give up... 2 years and a few million per.

the upside is that it clearly frees up management to pursue top forward/defender w/out worrying about who is going to be goaltending to boot. i'm not convinced that Biron is the greatest thing in the world, but at least we have more options now... and clearly this is a sign that my harping about Nitty wasn't something lacking in our Front Office as well.

I don't see why Biron wouldn't sign a contract here if he was told he would be the starter.

Biron was acquired for a 2nd round pick. That is what sportsnet.ca is reporting. There are no conditions on the pick being a first either if Biron re-signs in Philadelphia.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Sabres goaltender Martin Biron was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday for a second-round draft pick.

In a separate trade, the Columbus Blue Jackets sent Ty Conklin to Buffalo for a fifth-round pick in this summer's draft.

The trade sending Biron to the Flyers comes hours before the NHL trade deadline and was not unexpected. An eight-year NHL veteran, Biron has been seeking a trade since losing the No. 1 job to Ryan Miller early last season. And the injury-depleted Sabres have been looking to free up payroll because they are at the NHL's $44 million salary cap.

Career average of .909, better than what we're dealing with currently. Not as good as Giguere, but you're right in that it saves some money to upgrade other positions.

Yea, I posted that ESPN reported this which certainly is good. Now what happens to Esche. It was said we waived leighton because it was too much pressure on Stevens to manage 3 goalies, well we have 3 again. I suspect Esche will be out of a Flyers jersey by the end of the day either via trade or waivers
