Edmonton vs. Phoneix GDT Feb 27/07

Oilers play host to a team coached by a former Oilers hero (Gretzky) as they honour a former Oiler hero (Messier) on the day that they trade a former Oilers hero (Smyth)

7PM MTS

Oilers: 30-27-6
Phoenix: 26-33-3

Phoenix is playing the middle test of a three-game road trip tonight. The Coyotes have lost five straight as the visiting team and are 12-20-1 away from Arizona this year.

Edmonton is 2-1 against the Coyotes this season and has taken four of the last five overall meetings with Phoenix.

Players to watch:
Oilers - anybody but Ryan Smyth
Phoenix - whoever is left

there....a game day thread... well, have at er

Who gives a crap?

11-2 Coyotes.

Lowe better get a hellish torrent of boos from the Oiler faithful.

Anyone else not in the mood for a game tonight?

Is it wrong that I want the Oilers to lose all their games so they can get a top 5 draft pick?

^^ Your both assuming that Lowe walks onto the ice. During the press conference, he alluded to that possibility that he would not. Smart move.

5-3 Oilers. Stand by your team... even when you can't recognize it anymore..

Anyone of you who have given up on the team, want some Cheese with that Whine

This sucks right now and makes the team worse right now, but this is better for future.

I was wondering about that. Kind of bad timing how this all worked out.

Horrible timing. Losing your favourite player.

The only reason I'll watch the first 5 minutes is because of the jersey's. No interest otherwise.

This was a craptacular night to have Moose's retirement. Come on, NHL Trade Deadline? I know they wanted to do it against the Coyotes, why could we have waited for next season's opener or something.

I think the players try to prove the media wrong (that we're out of it) and make a big push for the playoffs. For the first time this year, they'll actually show emotion (and will for the rest of the year). 6-1 oil

We should all be excited about the Messier jersey retirement...

I hope no one gets booed at it - it will just put a bad spin on the whole night for Moose and plus...why is everyone solely mad at Klowe? If Smytty truly wanted to stay he would have signed for what was offered.....

We'll miss you #94
but..

GO OIL!!!!

So are the Oilers going to wear their vintage jerseys tonight? Even though it is a minor detail, it seems somewhat surreal that Smyth won't be playing tonight and wearing those colours again.

I think the Oil will win this game and the next few, with the trade fresh in their minds to try and prove a point, but they'll start to fall off as the year goes on in typical over achieving fashion.

I'll be very curious to see the team's reaction tonight.

Will they take it as a challenge, or will they decide to mail it in because they feel their GM already has?

I honestly don't know what will happen, but I hope the fans show some class and keep some perspective.

I don't know if I can stomach this game tonight. I'm sad right now.

Just don't get embarrassed. That's all I ask for tonight.
