Scott Hartnell...

Is there any news on whether Hartnell is looking to resign with Nashville or not for next year? Does it look like he'll sign with the club long-term or will he test unrestricted free agency in the summer? Any word on the dollars he's looking for?

Edmonton needs a replacement for Smyth.

after today edm has been mentioned as one of the possible places for harts to go.

we have 4 big UFA: kariya, foppa, hartnell and kimmo(i think). kariya will probably be first in the priority pecking order. depending on how much/long he wants will dictate how much is left to go around. it is possible that we could get both paul and peter to sign together with a team discount(one of the reason foppa came here was kariya). this is also assume foppa wants to come back.

hartnell would probably be next as he is fairly young and is one of the few net crashers we have. he signed a 1 yr/$1.75 mil and my guess he will want more. he is the most likely of the group to want to test FA(being the youngest), but i think he would stay if we made him a fair offer. my guess would be between $2~$3 mil. currently there are no talks with him. this is because (as i mentioned above) PK is first priority and he doesn't want to talk new contract during the season.

although the cap is going up i think edm and nash are in similar situations(we can't afford to get near that $50 mil limit).

i think PK signed this and last year for $2.5 mil/yr and harts @ $1.75 mil for this year.
Smyth, 31, is making $3.5 million this season and is due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, meaning the Oilers were at risk of losing him for nothing in the offseason. It's believed he had been hoping for a long-term deal with the Oilers worth at least $5 million a season.
for that kinda of money we could have foppa back. and that $5 mil was supposedly w/a home town discount for Edm. no doubt somebody with deep pockets that can spend all of the $50 mil will give him a sweet deal(wings/leafs).

The order of interest from the Preds in resigning are [believe it or not]:
Kariya/Forsberg.....Timonen.....Hartnell.

What happens, and how much it cost with the top of the order, determines the interest level further down on the list.

The further we go in the playoffs, the more the latter two will demand.

How much Kariya wants will hinge on if Forsberg is interested in staying, as Kariya really wants Forsberg to stay.

If we resigned Forsberg/Kariya, I'm more than happy to let Hartnell walk (and yes it pains me to say that).

Kariya signed a 2 year 9 million deal. I expect he will want at least that....maybe 2 year 10 million.......ditto for Forsberg.

Kimmo should get the same contract as Brewer.

Hartnell should get a contract less than Sturms but above 2.25 million a year.

The lockout year counted towards a year of free agency

I know this is a little off topic, but what about Vishnevski? I can't see us re-signing him for the amount he's currently making ($1.5 mil), do you think he would sign for less. Of course he'll be at the bottom of the list in priority.
