AHL Clear Day - Thursday March 1

CLEAR DAY SET Ö Clear Day for the 2006-07 season is set for Thursday, March 1. Each AHL member club is required to submit its Clear Day list to the league office by 3:00 p.m. ET on that day.

Only those 22 players listed on a teamís Clear Day roster are eligible to compete in the remainder of the AHL regular season and in the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs, unless emergency conditions arise as a result of recall, injury or suspension.

Teams may also add signed junior players or players on amateur tryout contracts after Clear Day, but only once their respective junior or college seasons are complete.

link: http://www.theahl.com/news/league/in...rticle_id=7466

So, tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. ET serves as the AHL "trade deadline".

This is the day that NHL teams "loan" players to AHL teams that aren't their affiliates. For example, last season, the Kings loaned Brad Smyth to Hartford (Rangers) and the Rangers loaned Joe Rullier to Manchester...Last season on Clear Day Ryan Kinasewich was swapped for Alexandre Daigle (Kinasewich will always have that)...

Also, there are typically several "paper transactions" through which NHL teams assign or loan players to the AHL and recall them on the same day. I truely hope to see Kopitar involved in a paper transaction tomorrow not because I think he'll play in the AHL but rather I would find it somewhat entertaining to count the Dean Lombardi has officially lost his mind posts and threads that would certainly accompany such a paper transaction...

Why put Kopitar on the Clear Day list if there is no intention of him playing for Manchester some might ask? The simple answer is that it's cheating and all teams do it. The rules allow for the replacement of players on the list if they are recalled to the NHL. It gives AHL teams roster flexibility for the rest of the season...

Folks should expect to see injured players on the Clear Day list as well even if there is ZERO chance a player will be available. Again, it's cheating but all teams do it for the roster flexibility. Folks likley remember that Lehoux had season ending surgery during the lockout season, he appeared on the Clear Day list that season...

Bernier's and Lewis' names need not appear on the list as they are allowed to join the team after their Junior seasons end. They don't count toward the 22-player limit when added. In other words, the 22-player limit is expanded to accomodate the addition of Junior and College players when their resepective seasons have ended...

Feel free to post your lists or players you think will be on the list in this thread. I'll start:

Jeff Giuliano - recently had abdominal surgery and is unlikely to be ready any time soon. He's a perfect candidate for the clear day list.

in that case you might see ryan murphy's name on there too.
I would think Richard Petiot, Zeiler, O'Sullivan, and a slim chance of Kopitar added on.

Murphy wouldn't surprise me at all. I agree with Petiot, Zeiler and O'Sullivan as well...

No reason to have Kopitar play in Manchester, the kid is a very good NHL player. Why risk anything for him to play some "playoff" hockey in a league he'll never see.

Actually Mr. Blazer, last year it was NOT Ryan Kinasewich that was swapped for Alexandre Daigle... it was whatshisname... (ugh, now I have to go look it up, even though I absolutely remember it was...)

No, it's been around for as long as I can remember, which, given the 70's is, what was your question again???

Is it earlier this year? Why does it seem like teams add players later?
Like college guys? What am I thinking?

I'm not sure what the rules are regarding unsigned draft picks that have been playing in Euorpe. My guess is that he can't be added, the whole having to clear waivers to play in the same season that they've played in Europe after the start of the season thing. I'm as likely to be wrong as correct here...

The College guys typically sign ATO contracts...

The Junior guys that are already signed to NHL deals, are assigned to the AHL by their NHL clubs. The unsigned guys from Juniors typically sign ATO contracts...

I think you will see Patrick O'Sullivan on that list. I also expect that at least one or two swaps will happen. Not sure exactly who but I expect to see perhaps Oleg Tverdovsky and Marty Murray sent somewhere.

I'm not sure if it's early this year or not. Teams do add players later, guys from Juniors or College are added once their respective seasons have ended...

But do they have to be included on this list before hand? I guess that's where I'm confused.

Clarke, Noah
Gauthier, Gabe
Giuliano, Jeff
Jackman, Tim
Kanko, Petr
Moulson, Matt
Murphy, Ryan
Murray, Marty
O'Sullivan, Patrick
Ryan, Matt
Stephenson, Shay
Tukonen, Lauri
Zeiler, John

Buckley, Brendan
Harrold, Peter
Kemp, T.J.
Mormina, Joey
Nolan, Doug
Petiot, Richard
Tverdovsky, Oleg

LaBarbera, Jason
Brust, Barry

In Residence:
Crosty, Paul
Fukufuji, Yutaka
Hogeboom, Greg
Schmidt, Brian
Werner, Eric

Wild Card = Kopitar, Anze

I don't think Kopitar will be sent to Manchester after the World Championships BUT placing him on the list gives them more roster flexibility...

Obviously the list assumes no deadline deals at the AHL level...

I have no idea. They have been playing well for a while now, so maybe they'll go with what they've got and add Lewis and Co. when their seasons end???

the list makes total sense to me. I was NEVER in the Kopitar kamp, but I did think there was a crapshoot chance in hell that Dallman would be on there (slim, but it wouldn't have surprised me.)

the monarchs' site just updated who's listed as "in residence": Paul Crosty (F), Ryan Murphy (RW), Greg Hogeboom (C) and Dany Roussin (LW).

i'm surprised that werner was left off the list completely, as was fuk. i'm shocked that roussin made it...

So am I. I would have much preferred Lukacevic over Roussin.

Roussin will park his butt in front of the opponents goalies while the defensemen unload shots at the net. Worked last season in Hartford during the playoffs once...

The guy's got everything to prove and better be hungry as hell. Lets see where it goes...

They've got to leave someone in Reading and it looks as though Lukacevic is that guy...
