The Devils did it last year... but even then, they were, and still are, a vastly different type of team than the Rangers.

For you Rags fans, you better be praying Shanny gets back in the lineup ASAP. You need him. Without him, Id start sending the Rangers golf-balls for the off-season.

Any hope of making the playoffs starts with 4 wins vs the Islanders. Anything less and it's going to be difficult.

Heart is definitly the issue, if they play like they did after the first 16mins into the game against Columbus and expect to go into the PO's they are delusional. They need to keep it simple and play smart team defense. If they let up on the opposition in any of the remaining games they might as well dust off the clubs and hit the links. FORE!

Right, the Devils are a team that is capable of putting together 5 or even 10 game winning streaks. When was the last time a Ranger team had a 10 game winning streak?

not going to make it..

why not take the two "solid d-men" Tyutin and Girardi and split them to pair them up with the two offensive d-men, Mara and Rachunek?

Don't give up hope yet.

The next 6 games should indicate whether they have a real chance:

2 games vs. Pittsburgh: A playoff team that they have struggled against this year.
2 games vs. Islanders: A rival ahead of them in standings, who has given them fits.
Carolina: Cup champ ahead of them in standings.
St. Louis: Team they should beat, but often don't.

If they go 5-1 or 4-2, they are right in the thick of playoff race. Anything less and they will be in dire straits.

Have to stay out of penalty box and stop giving up leads late in the game.

That will not happen. The Rangers will be swept by the Isles this season...

If I am correct the Rangers have yet to beat the Isles this season... I may be wrong though. But if I'm right... total sweepage.

The Isles with their recent trades at the deadline, in addition to their solid lineup...

Its going to be an uphill battle for the Rangers at best... if not a total upset.

Well not that I enjoy agreeing with a Devil's fan...but I think it unlikely to expect that we're going to win all 4 games against an improved Isles team after we failed to beat them once the first 4 tries. Personally, I'd be happy if we went 3-1 in these next 4, as even that will be no easy task.

We all know that though, that's why most of us aren't confident at this point. I just don't think it's necessary to point out the obvious every now and then

So the Rangers can't win all four games but they will lose all four. Not sure what any of that is based on.

No offense, I know you're one of the good guys, but your posts might be better received if you didn't come here making predictions about how the Rangers can't win four against the Isles but will lose four against them. And you might want to lose the "Rags fans" stuff.

The team:
Forwards - Jagr, Straka, Hossa, Avery, Nylander, Prucha, Shanny (IR), Cullen, Ortmeyer, Ibister, Betts, Hollweg, Orr, Immonen are the forwards
Will someone else get a callup?

Maybe lines something like this (after Shanny ev comes back???):
Hossa - Straka - Jagr
Avery - Nylander - Shanny
Prucha - Cullen - Ortmeyer
Hollweg - Betts - Ibister/Orr (depending on competition)

Reserve: Immonen

Not too bad actually. This looks a lot like the beginning of the year - adding Ortmeyer and Avery though. If they definitely fall out of the race 1-2 from Hartford should dress and play in the final games

Defense is also interesting. We got what we got.

Roszival - Malik
Mara - Tyutin
Rachunek - Girardi

Pck

In goal - it would be interesting to test Montoya a few games if Ranmgers are out of the PO picture. Otherwise I guess Henrik is going to play every game down the line (hopefully as if it is his last one...) until they break or bust. Valiquette was not a nice option it seemed.

If we make the playoffs (and he plays "well" in Hartford) - I would consider calling up Kaspar as 7th defender to add edge and experience. Probably not gonna happen anyway though.

Rangers have 19 games left with 66 points now. Need at least 25 points to squeeze into PO position in my opinion and according to my final prediction. Which should match reality. Buffalo, NJ Devils, Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Tampa seem to be in. Rangers fight it out with Atlanta, NY Isles, Montreal, Toronto, Carolina and Boston for last 3 spots. It will be a tough and interesting finale. Atlanta should make it now with their desperado upgrade - but it also often means :choke choke:
Maybe Rangers and Isles both make it in - but they need to make every game they meet each others (4 times remaining) a 3 pointer then.

Mar 1 PIT Must WIN
Mar 3 STL WIN
Mar 5 NYI WIN
Mar 8 @NYI OTL
Mar 10 @PIT LOSS
Mar 11 CAR Must WIN
Mar 13 OTT LOSS
Mar 16 @ATL LOSS
Mar 17 BOS WIN
Mar 19 PIT WIN
Mar 21 PHI WIN
Mar 24 @BOS WIN
Mar 25 @NYI LOSS
Mar 27 @MON WIN
Mar 31 @PHI WIN
Apr 1 TOR WIN
Apr 3 @NYI LOSS
Apr 5 MON WIN
Apr 7 @PIT LOSS

12-6-1
Still possible - but how probable. Far too many ourageously unnecessary losses like Philadelphia & Columbus cloud the way to the playoffs.

However - Philadelphia is in last place & the goon Brashears Caps will also be on the golf course come May. At least some consolation.

Thoughts or opinions?
This is exactly what I thought. 25 points or bust. Also I think they could at least split with the Icelanders. It is not fair to have them lose 7 games. 12-6-1 is conceivable

My bad on the "Rags fan" stuff.

As for the Isles... hell even I'm scared of them when they play the Devs. I never underestimate them. Ever.

Every time we play them, it seems like a tough battle.

Now you guys need to win 4 against them? That is going to be tough...

Still don't see anything that tells me the Rangers are going to get swept by them. Isles defense is shaky.

Agreed. I think a sweep is out of the question for either team. I would predict a split.

I don't underestimate any team...hell, I'm even scared to face St. Louis tomorrow!

And those Ranger games scare me A LOT!

So is the goalie. He's a solid goalie half the time and the other half he looks like an AHL'er who has never seen any time in the pro's. Lets hope we get the latter.

Haha, have you seen the last game against Philly? If that said anything it's that there is plenty of holes to be found with the Islanders. Whether or not the Rangers will take advantage of that is another story, but they are very beatable if in the right mindset (which sadly isn't the case most times with the Rangers)

All the games you have win next to are games that the rangers have an advantage in, imo, with the exception of NYI and PITTS wins. But those aren't far off. This is do-able, definitely a matter of having the heart to do it.

As we've learned this team seems to play like Jagr plays. We've seen him with no heart (mostly with other teams) and we've seem him give it his all before. It really depends on how badly he wants it.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...Ottawa won a huge game against the Canes tonight 2-0...that's a good start. We seriously need to win in Pittsburgh tomorrow...or at the very least get to OT...

according to my projections as of tonight, the Rangers lucked out that the tentative required # of points to secure a playoff spot went down to 90.

so were now talking 11-6-1 or something similar in the next 18 to squeak in.
