A few other guys who like who could come cheap for depth Whitney/Laperrier/Walz.

Gagne/Gomez/Knuble
Giroux/Carter/Smyth
Upshall/Richards/Umberger - Kapenen
Eager/Potulny/Kapenen - Umberger

Afenasenkov/Nodl/Downie as reserves...

Pitkanen/Kukkonen
Picard/Phillips -Hannan - Markov
Hatcher/ Gautier - Colburn - Parent

Biron
Nitty

I like this line up.
Smyth rejected 5 year 30M deal according to Edm board.. I wonder how much he is looking for... (no link)
Markov will get more then 4.5 for sure, probably a little over 5M maybe even 5.5 or 6. Philips will get around 5M. Hannan is about right 4.5
Markov is better then Hannan or Philips. No question. I would send Picard back to AHL and play Coburn.

Overall I like your lineup.

Yes I guess I went a little low on the contracts. Wwould you really rather have Colburn in the lineup over Picard.

whats the love affair with Gomez?????
And no small guys(Briere) with great skill for the flyers, we
like big slow and useless like Hatcher
As for smyth, I like him but don't know how he would fit
in with the flyers. Lastly, the first free agent signing for
the flyers should be Biron

I thought I read that Smyth rejected 5 years, $27.5 million, and was looking for $30 million.

Well we did not trade Zhitnik for Coburn to keep him in minors.. Picard is pretty good and I would not trade him now or 2 years from now.

He rejected 5.4M a year from Edm (made a mistake there).. So I guess he will get more then 6 from NYI or 6M?

If this article is accurate:

http://ottsun.canoe.ca/Sports/Hockey...80223-sun.html

EDMONTON -- One hundred thousand dollars.

That was it. That was the difference between what the Oilers had offered and what Ryan Smyth's agent, Don Meehan, was asking 20 minutes before the NHL trade deadline Tuesday.

That's the number, the Sun has learned from a highly placed source, that resulted in Ryan Smyth becoming a New York Islander.

The Oilers had agreed to go up to $5.4 million (all terms US) per year. But Meehan, according to the source, said refusd to move from $5.5 million per year over five years with a no-trade contract.

The post you were referring to was not read properly. I said Briere is like Forsberg except for the physical element. He can dominate a play, slow it down and has sick hands.

Have you seen him play...He is arguably the best UFA out there. He is a great passer, has good wheels, solid in both end of the rink and would be a perfect centermen for Gagne.

And like I've already said it would hurt the Devils to lose him.

I would take him over Drury, Brier or Forsberg.

After seeing how emotional Blake was while being interviews after the game...he will definetly be staying on long island.

Gomez and Gagne would compliment each other well, but Gomez is not better than Drury, Briere, or Forsberg.

I guess I just like his game better then the other 3...of course I would take a complete healthy Forsberg over Gomez, but I still would take him over the 2 Sabres...Don't get me wrong I would be happy with any of them.

Briere over Gomez. Briere has one of the nicest and fastest set of hands in the league. We need that on so many levels. There are few like him but many like Gomez.

I doubt it. Smyth wants money.. He will charge NYI full price, Blake was almost traded to Ducks (if I am not wrong). Blake will not give NYI come discount, he is looking for $ and he will get it somewhere. Can NYI keep both? Tough question.. With Yashin 7.6, Satan 4.25, DP 4.5, Smyth at least 5.5-6, Kozlov UFA, Poti UFA, Hunter RFA looking for new deal.

Yeah they do have alot of cap what ifs but I can almost be certain that Smyth doesn't resign in New York. I wouldn't doubt it if he goes back to Edmonton or anywhere else in the northwest...Vancouver/Calgary/Minnesota.

makes that contract for gagne look very good now doesnt it We have him at that number through his prime. (for those that dont like that contract.

I would go real hard after Smyth for that 2nd line (if the money is not ridiculous).

I say sign Smyth, one of the center (Briere, Gomez, Drury), a 4th line center and a big name dman

Gagne Drury Knuble
Smyth Carter Umberger
Sanderson/Potulny Richards Upshall
Eager FA Kapanen
Afanasenkov

Pitkanen Kukkonen
K. Timonen Picard
Gauthier Coburn
Parent

Biron
???? (I guess Nitty)

Really? Why do you say that?

Nothing against Smyth, he is all heart and soul but he looked like Cujo when he was crying... Cujo knew he was going to finally make $ when he left Toronto. Tears of happiness? I know, I sound a little ironic but come on, Smyth was underpaid in almost every season.

Yes, yes he is better. I really don't understand the love affair with Drury. He's had a career high of 67 points twice in his career and people want to anoint him as the guy who should be our target in free agency to center the top line. What kind of crap is that? Throw our money at a guy who is a 2nd line center at best. Only in Philadelphia, where talent takes a back seat to someone who can check. I'll never understand it.

Gomez is a better fit with Gagne, but that doesn't make him better than Drury.

I also think Drury and Smyth would be horrible pickups for the Flyers.

Really I have no reasoning, I just can't see Smyth as an Islander next year. I see him signing for a Canadian team or some where in the northwestern part of the US.
