I hope its the opposite, i hope Smyth finds happiness and the Isles go on a massive in streak and go deeply into the Playoffs, Blues are gonna get routed, i hope the Isles win and Smyth is happy, hoping they lose so they dont sign him.....not cool IMO...

Seriously that pic of him in a non-Oiler uniform make me feel kind of sick. Something does not compute. It's like being told 5 + 2 = 1.

Just to clarify.

Milbury didnt drive this franchise to the ground, crappy ownership did. SMG deal, Spano (who conned his way into buying the team, net worth is probably less then seven figures), Pickets, etc.

Until Wang, Milbury was literally had a handicap. Since Wang (which includes the Dipi fiasco) Milbury went to the playoffs 3 out of 5 times.

So, every single dman and forward in their roster shoots left? That's gotta be some sort of record.

Looking at the Smyth photos, the first thing that came to my mind was:

Look in the mirror before you critique others.

I have. The Oilers are about 10,000 times the franchise that the Islanders are.

ah, spoken like a schlep who had a front-running rooting interest in the Rangers while he tried to make life happen in the big apple, couldn't hack it, scampered out with his tail between his legs, and hugged a solid franchise like the oil tightly to his wimpering breasts. LOL. you sad sad little girl. our four cups in less than half the time the rangers have existed surely seem better than the 3 the NYR got, the fourth being creditted, now and always, to the ny oilers.

I feel sick seeing those pics.
I can't imagine what Smytty is going through. What a whirlwind, both physically & emotionally. You just know, that's he is absolutelt a fish out of water right now.
Get a hatty tonight Smytty! I'll be watching mate!!!
(Edit: I was referring to the pics from the initial link in the thread. He looks a little more comfortable in the one directly above) but you know his world is upside down at the moment.

I just wanna cry.

I do too.

Actually, I left New York to get married to someone near Edmonton, not because I couldn't hack it in NYC, or because I got tired of the Rangers But feel free to spread the rumour....

Some of us wouldn't have liked it, myself included. My stance was always that I didn't want the Oilers to go a cent higher than 5.25 million.

Point is, the Oilers didn't say no to Ryan for 5.4 million...but Ryan did.

Thus, this is where we are.

beautiful country with a kick ass anthem, that Canada. love the Canadian anthem. I think they should sing it at every hockey game.

for the record, smytty seems to think highly of the isles history and franchise. his comments are all very instantly endearing. seems like the right stuff to say, of course, but if he was unhappy he would have no reason to say anything at all...

No offense, but when it comes to hockey players being traded from one org to another, I always take the pap they speak to the media of the town they arrived at with a huge heaping bucket of salt...and that includes the prospects that the Oilers just brought into the fold.

Actions speak louder, so we'll see what Smyth does in July.

couldn't agree more. that's what I was suggesting towards the middle of my sentence. still, ryan's undoubtedly a knowledgeable guy and very few hockey guys who understand the greatness of the 5 cups the oil took in their heydey misunderstand the feat of winning 4 in row. whether people hate the isles or not, or think they've disgraced themselves with bad and cheap ownership over the years, 4 in a row is 4 in a row... i was crushed when the oil took us out, but they were bigger than life. our guys were great as a team and great individually, but by virtue of THE GREAT ONE your mid 80's team is without question the scariest in the history of the sport.

all that aside, i am going tonight and will guage the response. i am pulling for the guy as an isles fan, but i also think he was the right guy to target for this team, knowing it's weaknesses. trent has been going it alone in front of the opposition's net this year. it'll be nice to have someone else who has a clue in short range.
