What 1st Rd Picks do we have for 2007?

Hi All. With all the trading that happened in the past two years, what 2007 first round picks do we have? (What team)

Did we not trade our own to Minny?

Just wondering where the picks will be in the draft.

Thanks.

What are the likely draft positions? What would they be now if the season ended? I'm too lazy to figure it out.

there's a possibility we end up as high as 7th or 8th on our own and hope for a bump up in the lottery.

the isles are likely a 15-20th pick and the ducks will be late in the round.

I hope like heck we finally get an impact player that can play almost immediately or within 1 year. With 3 picks, no matter how lousy your scouting is you are bound to get at least one really good player though I heard the draft isn't very strong top end this year. The low Duck's pick may well work out to be the best one.

i say we trade AT LEAST 2 of our picks if we don't get a good position with ours, and try for a top 5 spot in this years draft, get kane, alzner or somebody high end

Right now, we're 11th. The Islanders are 16th. Anaheim, 26th.

Yeah, I hope we either trade the picks for a player or the picks for a higher pick. From Kevin Lowe's interview, it sounded like that is what he was going to do. This summer is going to be fun I think!

I hope he won't. He should keep those 3 1st round picks.
No need to trrade up when we have a Top 10 choice.

If I had to guess I'd say we pick 10th, 17th (Islanders) and 27th (Ducks). The value of first round picks is at an alltime low, especially those late in the round like the two we traded for will likely be. I'm for using all 3 unless a good deal to trade up presents itself. I also wouldn't mind making a trade for a player depending on the deal.

Minny still has a 3rd round pick for Roloson this year, and Buffalo has our 7th for Hedja.

Hopefully we'll get in the top 10 for the first rounders this year.

I might not 100% understand how the summer FA market works: but the draft is on June 22, 2007 and the FA market only opens up on July 1. The Oilers cannot trade away their picks this summer because, by then, the draft will already be over. With the deadline past they cannot make any deals for the remainder of the season.

At best, they'll draft some prospects and trade them off for experienced players. If they can't get Smyth back, expect them to use the cap room and prospects (they have a lot) to get an experienced blue-liner hitting the FA market.

Lowe said in his interview that they were potentially gonna target RFA's on teams that will be unable to sign them and acquire them via trade. I figure the 1st rounders might be in on that type of deal.

I believe the trading can start again after the playoffs are over.

Actually, I always thought that you could trade anytime, but if you trade after the trade deadline, that player couldn't play in the playoffs?

Nope. No trades after the deadline until after the playoffs are concluded.

Right now the oilers would pick 10th or 11th.

Behind us in the west that may pass us because of our AHL line up is:

Colorado - 1 point back, didn't sell, so they should pass us in theory

St.Louis - 3 points back, sold top 2 point getters, may catch us because of decent defense

Phoenix - 9 points back, unlikely they will catch us.

In the East:

Rangers - Tied in points and have game in hand, didn't sell

Boston - 2 points back and sold. But could catch us, not far back and still have solid line up

Florida - 3 points behind us, I would expect them to catch us

Washington - 7 points back, has the players to go on a big run but not likely with out Kolzig

Verdict:
Oilers pick will be #7 over all.

Islanders pick will be #16.

Anaheim's pick will be #24, Ottawa, NJ, Buffalo, Nashville and Detroit will end the season with a better record.

Very optimistic...too optimistic.
That would be best case senario.
I guess it's something like, 12th, 19th, 26th
Anaheim will win their Division, so they hav at best the 25th pick.

You think the Oiler's won't drop in the league wide standings? I don't know if that's optimistic about their play or pessimistic about our luck of getting a good player.

No, I don't think they will drop that much. They will win again games. the pressure is away now, and that don't have to be negative for the Players.
In the WC we stay as 9th position I guess. Colorado and St.Louis will keep losing. Even without Smyth, we are not weaker than them.
In the EC at best Boston and the Rangers will be ahead of us. But I guess in the end it will only one of the 2.
So we would have Pick #11

Colorado will pass us. I'm confident of that.

You say the pressure is gone, and the pressure is gone to bring back Moreau and Stoll soon. They will take longer then they would have previously, along with Smid.

The kids will be feeling the pressure because they are looked to to win games, score big goals. The pressure is on them.

We will drop in the league standings. We play 6 games against the wild and flames. They are fighting for positioning. We only play against 5 non playoff teams for the remainder of the season. We will drop in the standings, I wish we could see a few games with the kids, the exciting kids, if they were in the line up, I would actually go to the games and not give my tickets away.

Sure, if Stoll, Moreau, Smid don't come back this season we have a good chance to slip into a Top 10 pick. Would be very nice.
Because of what I read so far the first 10 Prospects this year are pretty equal.
Kane, Turris, Alzner, Cherepanov, Voracek, van Riemsdyk, Gagner, Couture, Ellerby, Esposito(with a questionmark) are all Prospects I would be very satisfield if we could get one of them.
Especially if it would be one if the first 8 I have listed.

knowing our luck all of the above will be gone when its our turn at #11.. theres not much difference between a #11 or a #21 pick.. after top 10... its all the same for 20or more slots. Esposito would be my choice.. if not him then ellerby.. but for that we must let the colarados and torontos get ahead of us.
