Overview:
It's the start of five straight home games for the Wings. Defenseman Brett Lebda missed practice with the flu. Forward Tomas Kopecky, who remains out with a broken collarbone, skated with the team Thursday. Brett Lebda wasn't at practice but should be ready for tonight's game. Babcock said he'll keep Kyle Calder with Robert Lang and Johan Franzen . Jiri Hudler likely will skate with Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper. That'll leave Josh Langfeld with Matt Hussey and Matt Ellis. The Wings had a deal in place with the Coyotes to acquire Owen Nolan , but Nolan declined the trade because his wife is pregnant and he didn't want to leave Phoenix.

Trade Center:
The Todd Bertuzzi Trade:
To Detroit: Todd Bertuzzi
To Florida: Shawn Matthias + Two conditional draft picks
Big and mobile, he owns soft hands that do damage around the net. Can score spectacular goals, but is also adept at playing the set-up role. When on his game, he can dominate.
His temper often gets the best of him. Lacks discipline and takes a lot of bad penalties in the offensive zone. Can get lazy at times.
potential Power forward.
"He's got real good size and he's got good speed. He gets on pucks fast and he has that big body. We're hoping he's a third-liner. He’s a strong skater, and in the new NHL, we’re hoping he’s going to be a real tough guy to play against.” Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill (June 2006)
Excellent size for a young prospect, swift skater who has good speed, forechecks with gusto, finishes checks, plays a simple north-south game, smart at both ends of the rink, good playmaker, great penalty-killer, hard worker, known to drop the gloves on occasion, good on faceoffs, great dedication to off-ice fitness and strength training
More confidence and assertiveness would allow him make a huge impact, not a punishing physical force for his size, may not have the hands to become a top-line NHLer
Matthias projects as a third- or fourth-line role player in the future.
Provides his team with a bundle of energy every shift. Has a propensity to step it up in key situations. Can play effectively at any forward position. Is developing his offensive game.
Needs to bulk up in order to survive playing an in-your-face style at the NHL level. May have already topped out his offensive production.
Drafted by Chicago in 2003 (5/151).
Plays an all-around game. Moves the puck well and is very disciplined in the defensive zone.
His lack of size could hurt his chances of playing regularly in the NHL. Doesn't have top-end offensive skills.
Top six defenseman.
Is offensively gifted and savvy. Can put up solid numbers and works well with talented linemates. Is very useful on the power play, and can even play the point.
Lacks size and supreme skating ability. Must play a grittier game in order to remain a successful top-six forward.
potential Top six winger.
