When Alfredsson signed his extension at 5.5 a season it was the year after Holik signed the ridiculous contract. Alfredsson could have commanded 8 million on the open market.

Kaberle 4.25 million 5 years

Cheechoo 3.0 million for 5 years (scored the most goals in the NHL)

Just some players that came to mind.

Ah yes Holik, i stand corrected, every player in the nhl took a hometown discount in the old cba.

Lucky for Kaberla that he took that discount eh, otherwise Toronto wouldnt have been able to sign all those extra free agents to take them over the top.
