Well, he's Finnish. Everyone knows they really hate 'the gays', right?

(Come on, let's all stereotype! It's fun! And we get to blame it all on Tincan!)

It's like that old joke (adjusted for current nouns)... how many gay people are in Finland? None, once the bus to Sweden leaves!

Ba-dum-dum.

5'9? Is that what he is listed at?

If he is 5'7 then I will eat a live tiger.

SMOE, do the right thing and ask a mod to lock this thread. It doesn't even have anything to do with Hudler anymore!

Do the right thing?

Ask a mod to lock a thread?
Is that allowed? People actually do that?

Kira, I wanted to talk about Jiri Hudler and find out if people felt he was the best Czech midget in the NHL, but look what happenned! People said Datsyuk was Ugly! Lock it! Now people are saying that Finns are homos -- not that there's anything wrong with that!
Kira, this thread is spinning out of control!
Lock it! Lock it, before we all burn in hell!!!!

Yeah, SMOE. You're one of the better posters on here and this thread is stupid. Calling a guy a midget? Hey, at least he's IN the NHL. More than I can say for all the hockey experts in some parts. Now we've got people calling each other homos... yup, real fun. Can't wait for more of this stuff. Woo hoo. Wings board. It probably seemed like a funny idea at the time and you probably meant it to be funny, but it just didn't work.

Well, at least we don't coin weird expressions like "outscorer"

Enough already. If we don't stop posting in this thread we'll restrict our ability to regularly update that numbers game thread or start the 35th iteration of a lineup setting/FA acquisition/Schneider and Lang sucks discussion.

And that's not even talking about an important Sundin issue whose absence in conversation would leave cavernous wounds in many, many posters.

I'm telling you, we're threatening the very fabric of intelligent discourse when we participate in foof threads like this one!

Everyone's a critic.

For the record, in the mid-1980s, I think Mats Naslund was the best Swedish Midget in the NHL.

"Outscorer" - HFboards colloquialism for a player with a positive +/- rating. (Don't use it or you will be branded an idiot for obvious reason.)

One of my favorite midgets - and this is where I date myself [although DelVecchio has me beat] - is Pit Martin. Hockey DB says 5'8" and I say No Way.

Ohhhhhhhkay. Yah, think I've seen that one used by the stats geeks. They don't list the players names either but refer to them by their team number. Fortunately for me I don't use made up words-- unless I make them up!

I think Hudler may technically be a dwarf.

Nonononononononono! It's a player having a positive ES plus/minus when playing tough ES minutes while getting limited PP minutes.

It's only used on the Oiler board and Ryan Smyth is the greatest outscorer who ever lived. It's also the only stat that rationalizes him getting 5.5 million per season

What's really a traveshamamockery is the Smyth is going to get $6+ million from someone, we don't know who yet, but it will happen. I'm not going to try to rationalize what any of these guys "deserve" to get, but there will be much moaning, whining and spewing of sulfur on the board this summer when Smyth and Datsyuk deals are announced. I just read somewhere that the cap could go as high a $49 or $50 MM this summer. There will be plenty of money floating around.

As for one of the stats gurus who shall remain unnamed, Dion Phaneuf isn't a top D man in the NHL. He gets really easy ES minutes and is probably #80-100 in D man rankings overall... if that.
