Are we makin' the playoffs?

Honestly...?

I can't tell what the general consensus is around here. Personally, I say no, but I don't think we're mathematically eliminated yet. Although those shootout games between Calgary and Minnesota are chapping my cornhole.

Negatory. Avs would have to go on a massive winning streak and Calgary or Minnesota would have to go into a serious slump. It COULD happen, yes, but it's just not likely. I'm kinda okay with that to tell you the truth -- you know the Avs wouldn't go far in the playoffs with the problems they have, so why invest more emotion into this season? Let's just enjoy the rest of the season and look forward to next year.

I'm probably one of the few that still think we can make it, but it's a long shot.

If we win 15 down the stretch then I'd say so, but it really would be quite hard.

Hopefully the Oilers beat the Flames tonight in regulation.

That thread's a little dated, I was wondering about current thoughts. Although it looks even bleaker now...

Hope was slim a month ago. Now the team would have to play unlike they have all season for their remaining games. In short, no.

Colorado's only chance is if one of the teams above them tanks.

San Jose has been 3-6-1 in their last ten. If they keep that pace, there's still hope. That's 7 points in ten games, or 12 in the last 17 of the season at that pace. If they did finish like that they would end up with 90 points. Colorado would then have to get 23 points in 17 games (10-4-3 or so) to tie. Not likely, but San Jose has been pretty bad lately.

There is still a chance, but it will require a hell of a stretch drive, with a lot of luck. They are currently 10 points behind Calgary for 8th with Calgary having a game in hand. The Flames are they're best bet to overtake in the standings not just because they're the 8th place team, but because we have 3 games against them remaining. If we can somehow win all three of those games and keep ahead of Edmonton at the same time, then we will only be 4 points back from the Flames, but we have to find a way to get another point since the Flames have the tiebreaker with more wins.

The problem is we have to put ourselves in a position to be able to overcome those four points beforehand, as the last two Calgary games are in April, with the last game of the season against them. Would be a hell of a game if it actually ended up determining who makes the playoffs.

That's two wins for us while they lose a couple which is within the realm of possiblity, but a tie won't do it for us because Calgary has the tiebreaker with more wins.

Calgary won't win the tiebreaker if Colorado gets enough wins to catch up to them. Right now they have 34 wins and 9 OTLs. If Colorado wins the 5 games needed to catch up they'll have 36 wins and 5 OTLs. Given the large number of OTLs that Calgary has, they'll likely lose a tiebreaker with almost any other team that has the same number of points because that other team with almost surely have more wins.

Basically, if Colorado gets enough wins to catch Calgary in points, it is almost a sure thing that they will also have more wins.

That's true. I wasn't thinking about where our wins would be at if we beat Calgary those three games and then got the 4 more points on them to tie. It doesn't guarentee that we'll have more wins because there's still many OTL's to be had by us, but it's likely we would have more wins if we actually do catch them in the standings.

Avs can only afford to lose three games from this point in just to have a shot at the playoffs. I'd say there's still a chance, but not much of one.

We'll get damn close, but Forsberg will get the GWG on April 7, ending all hopes of us making the playoffs.

I doubt Forsberg will have the chance, it'll be decided way before then. Too many road games.

The playoffs aren't completely out of reach but we'll need help from one of the teams 10-12 points ahead of us (CAL, MIN, SJ, VAN). If one of these teams finishes the season with a 50/50 record and we finish with a 10-6 record then it's going to be very close.

Would I bet on it? Definately not, but there's small possibility, that we make it.

Unfortunately, no.

We basically have to be perfect AND someone in front of us will need to just tank it.
