GDT: Oilers @ Phoenix Coyotes, Dec. 12

Salo starts tonight (unless there's a big change) - how close is Reasoner to returning?

If the Oilers can keep playing the way they did for most of the game against the Sharks, we should be OK.

Izzy had a good game from the sounds of it - what about Brewer's first game back?

I'm pretty sure MacTavish said in yesterday's paper that Reasoner will likely be back by the end of the trip, but I don't think he'll be in tonight. I hope they err on the side of caution if there is any doubt.

5-3 Oilers

I liked it better when the oilers were the worse defensive team in the NHL (or second worse) because they were also one of the highest scoring teams and were winning. Now they are playing a lot better defensively, but aren't scoring, and are losing. Just score goals should be their moto, and I think that they'll do fine. Either way, their skid is going to end tonight, and a new streak is going to start.

Smyth, Hemsky, Dvorak 2, Torres

I think Oilers will finally pull out of this, Salo will be solid in a 4-1 win.
Hemsky and Pisani will be the guys you notice. And the PP will score twice. We'll kill off all 4 penalties.

Staois 1G
Hemsky 1G,2A
Pisani 1G,1A
Oates 1G
Smyth 2A
Moreau 1A
Isbister 1A
Brewer 1A

LMAO. Good god I hope not.

Oates' goal goes in off a defender as he is trying to pass it back to Hemsky?

Oilers are getting better. Injured players are coming back. I hope Izzy lights up his old team for a pile!

6-1 Oil

Izzy with the hat.

To add to that...the best line combinations Oates had (Hull and Neely) were both right handed shots. Perhaps he's more comfortable feeding righties than lefties?

Just a thought.

Oilers 4-2!!

Torres, Dvorak, Isbister, Cross.

Ethan continues to stirr poop in front of the goalie, and Isbister muscles his way into a garbage goal.

As long as Oates was with the Caps, they were looking for a right-handed right wing to go with him. He has said he likes playing with a RW that shoots right better than a leftie. Could be a mental thing - it's hard to find a scorer like Hull or Neely - Oates could have talked himself into thinking he needs a rightie.

I'm not going to predict a score. The few times I have, the Oilers lose.

I just want a win. And as dumb as it sounds I would prefer a 3-2 victory over a 4-0 victory. This team has a history of letting highs get them high. I would prefer them to get the lead, and keep it.

Some nights this team will use the body. Some nights they never. I'm hoping for a physical game.

Would love to see Oates get a great goal or assist tonight. I'm not down on him, but I would like it to fend off any people that don't realise the "realistic" component he's going to bring to the team.....and how long it may take.

Oates is doing better than I thought, this early.

Smyth's a pretty good little winger eh?

He was all fired up last night and he seems to have harnessed some of that energy.

Moreau, Moreau, Moreau. Could there be a worse time to take a penalty?

Last year in Anaheim, Oates scored on his own net. He was passing a puck back to Kariya while the Ducks pulled their goaltender because there was a penalty. Well Kariya missed the puck and it went across the ice into the Ducks own net. lol

We'll see how Bob Francis adjusts in the second period. MacT better have this team prepared in the second for Phoenix's push.

I can't believe what soft hands Stoll has; in the first period, Brewer sent a bullet pass up the middle. Almost all of the time, that's either tipped into the Phoenix zone or the player can't receive it properly. Stoll cradled it and sent a nice pass to his winger.

This guy is going to be very good.
