I liked our playoff chances much better before the trade deadline. Both Atlanta and NY Islanders have greatly improved themselves. We need around 20 points out of our last 14 games. Not good odds...Considering the last 14 games we have only 10 points.
Our odds of getting into the playoffs are about 1 in 5.
what a silly notion when you consider the fact that he would have been dealt to a contending team(buyer) and contending teams don't want to give up roster players so my question is how do you come to the conclusion that picks and/or prospects would have increased our chances of making the playoffs ?
Really don't see it happening barring a minor miracle. Carbo's lost this team, seems completely lost behind the bench and is a primary factor for the divided dressing room.
Add to that the fact that our all-star goaltender is out til the playoffs (if by chance we get in) and our current tandem hasn't exactly taken the ball and ran with it (though I thought Halak was spectacular against the Bruins). Shoddy defense all around and inconsistent scoring is the cherry on top for this sinking ship.
Doesn't help that the Islanders and Thrashers both improved their teams at the deadline and we did nothing. Unless we win 10 of 14 as has been said, it doesn't happen this year.
Well with the way the other teams fighting for 8th are playing we could still make it, if the team starts playing with some sort of desperation game in game out. Unfortunately the only thing consistent about this club is that they are inconsistent. quite frankly IMO they don't really deserve to make the playoffs.
If we did make it as a bottom seed and i could pick a team to play, it would be Buffalo, for various matchup reasons.
There's still a chance. But right now, I'd like to see Carbonneau just give the bait to the young players.. Here Higgins, Plekanec, Perezhogin, Komisarek and Kostitsyn. Here's a boat load of ice-time, let's see what you can do for me when the race is tight.
