Just wondering what are the top mouth guards out there? Last week got a puck in the mouth, lots of blood teeth still these so i'm pretty thankful but it opened my eyes I need a mouth guard.
Well I hear pretty much a mouth guard is a mouth guard but if youre really really concerned: This one molds to your teeth and gums for a real good fit. I'm not familiar with it, but i almost bought one untill i narrowly got my glove in front of a deflection and decided a cage solves all problems, and no mouth guard would have saved my teeth from that shot. Also i get alot less angry when high sticks go uncalled against me
If you don't want to shell out alot of money, i found that when i did use a mouth guard // when i may have to in the near future (considering using a half shield if i join a roller hockey league in addition to my ice one) that This shock doctor was the most comfortable I've ever used. I went strapless of course, not sure if hockeymonkey has it that way.
Shock Doctor has been around for a while and i've never had a bad experience with them. The cheaper RBK mouth guard got destroyed when i boiled it, and it was only in for a few seconds. That thing disintegrated. Steer away from the $6 RBK in my opinion.

I know in Ontario that Minor Hockey teamed up with many denists that will get you fitted with a mouth guard for about $5. You have to check with your hockey association and see if they have such a partnership. If you do I would go this route because it is professionally fitted.
Ditto on the custom mouth guard. The store bought boil and bite guards are effective but can be cumbersome if you have a gag reflex. If you can't find a dentist that will do it without breaking the bank you can actually order the kit and have a custom made guard through http://www.customguards.com/. I got custom gurads for both of my kids. My older daughter had a bad tendency of chewing her boil and bite. She doesn't do that with the custom guard; it's like it's an extenstion of her teeth.
If you buy through there maker sure you read the directions first.
Good choices listed so far...but a moutguard isn't gonna be the savior in helping you save your teeth in case of a puck to the mouth. They're made more for preventing concussions.

Excellent point. Their primary purpose is concussion prevention. They may help prevent tooth loss. A full cage is the best way to prevent tooth loss and other facial injuries.
Alot of people wear both. Cage saves your face eyes, teeth, mouthguard saves your brain. In a beer league i just wear a cage. Contact league, both for certain.

I wear a full cage and a custom fit mouthguard. i don't even notice I have it in most of the time. As mentioned before the cage prevents facial and tooth loss injuries and the mouthguard prevents concussions. It can help with teeth and tongue, yes tongue, injuries also. A few years back I had a girl playing on my daughter's team. They played in mites which didn't require mouthguards. She got tripped up and as she was falling to the ice, her chin crashed into her knee. She wasn't wearing a mouthguard and bit a pretty nasty gash into her tongue that caould have been prevented with a mountguard. Boy was that ugly.

I see that your from Edmonton so you should just do what i did and go to the U of A on campus dental clinic and get them to make you a custom made mouth guard. It comes out to $55 which isnt bad at all really

My brother tell his dentist to made him a model and have one personalised . Its the best thing to do . But it cost like 100$ .
I've tried Shock Doctor, I've tried one that I've gotten from the Orthodontist but the best mouth guard I have used is the Reebok one I picked up for $10. Fits much better than any other mouth guard I've tried.
You can custom guards through http://www.customguards.com/ for about half the cost of gong to a dentist. This is what both of my kids use. It is the same as the dentist made guards they outgrew.

i am a newbie playing ice hockey, so i wear a cage and a guard because as someone else said, i have to go back to work the next day. Even if i was good, in a beer league, i wouldn't risk my face/eyes/teeth for fun.
