Steve McLaren to St. Louis

Newspaper and radio report says McLaren will be in St. Louis Saturday for the Kings game.

Should be interesting. Maybe Steve can fight his way onto the roster.

Awesome, good to see "Stone Cold" get a shot in the NHL. My question is why didnt he play tonight, he would have had an opportunity to get his feet wet against Jody Shelley.

Thanks 210. Do you think he can keep up in the NHL?

Play wise, probably not, but he's a far better skater then most give him credit for. Granted he wouldn't be rated better then "below average", but he isn't going to be out there to show his skating skills anyway, right?

Fighing wise, I'd say that just by dressing he'd be one of the top 5 or 6 fighters in the NHL before he throws a punch. In a game vs Providence earlier this season he had 2 fights where he pummeled his opponent so bad that they didn't get a punch in and in the 3rd fight he knocked the other guy out with 3 punches.

No one I'd call a "goon" even gets close to him anymore, and those that do generally get the ass-whoopin' of their lives.

Glad to hear about his skating. I saw him in Hartford this year and thought he looked fine. He dropped a WolfPack player pretty quick (Scott, I think) and there was no more trouble that night.

I think he's got a chance to stick in St. Louis, but the job is probably Low's as soon as he gets healthy. McLaren is a middleweight and Low is a true heavyweight.

Low just doesnt have the heart to be a full-time enforcer.
I suspect that Low is doing what he's told to do (or not do).

The only fight I have seen McLaren in was an AHL fight vs Scott Parker and the Ryan VandenBuschhe fight last pre-season, he was very good in both.

Based on those I wouldnt call him a middleweight just because he is smaller is stature than Low. I think he is a legit heavy. Hopefully he kicks enough ass during this callup that he can catch on with another team when Low gets healthy because it sounds like he has nothing more to prove in the AHL.

Far as I know this is his 1st regular season NHL game, best of luck Steve, enjoy it and Kick Ass because you have earned it.

Yep, it will be his first NHL game.

(I tried posting his career stats from hockeydb.com but it looks awful)

... and McLaren still hasn't played in the NHL. He was a scratch and Heerema played again.

Maybe next game Steve.

He skated in Warmup, I think he was scratched because Flinn, Brennan and Norton are all out for LA. My lock for Tuesday is that he plays and goes at least twice with Jody Shelley.

Good luck to McLaren in his call-up to the Blues. He has put in his time and has done a great job in the role required by him.

Hopefully, he will get a chance to stay there or at least get a chance on some other team.

With any luck the Blues' lineup will never be tarnished with Steve McLaren's presence.

How the Blues were able to ever win a game without McLaren is beyond me. His 4 minutes of ice time and 1st period fight were key in the Blues' OT win.

Looks like he did the job he was supposed to do to me...get everyone on the team to do that and you'll win a lot of games.

If his job is to provide nothing to the game, then you'd be right saying that he did his job. His fight was just a few minutes into the game and did nothing to get the crowd into it, which is the ONLY 'job' of a goon.

The team would have been better with Laflamme playing on the 4th line.

Someone here has issues with good, old-time hockey fighting. A Swedish hockey fan maybe?

I don't have any issues with fighting. I love hockey fights. My issue is with having a guy in the lineup that provides absolutely nothing to the game except the one fight that he gets in every 3 or 4 games.

Aren't you one of the guys that whines that Low doesn't fight enough, that he doesn't "do his job"? And now that there's a guy that's going to fight every chance he gets and your whining that he's not talented enough to play.

Give us a break dude...

You're talking about two completely different issues.

My comments about McLaren were directed at the fact that I don't believe that having a goon in the lineup is a necessity as some here do.

The problem with Low is that when he is in the lineup he doesn't know how to do his job. The fact that he doesn't know when to fight isn't even the worst issue with Low. It's the fact that he has no clue when to play the puck and when to play the body. If he were ever to figure this out I'd have no problem with him in the lineup.
