What would you say...

...the biggest surprise of the 1/3rd over season has been?

Has it been the Comriegate situation over in Edmonchuk, or Savard's sniper ways? Or is it a team thing, such as the surprising runs of Atlanta, Calgary, and Nashville? Is it the severity of the Cujo situation or something much less significant, like Levesque (?) being called up from UBC to back up Hedberg?

Mine would probably be Comriegate, but in terms of players, I've been impressed with Savard and Donovan.

Two things..

the tremendous job Bob Hartley's done with Atlanta, and Giguere's total collapse

Three things, the tremendous job Hartley has done with Atlanta (not that he wasn't already doing great things prior to this season but as kmad probably meant, what he has done in light of that teams tragic accident), Giggy's total collapse, (although I have no shock at all at how poorly Fedorov is playing as I had said that these are the kind of numbers he would post in Ana as well as Prospal) and then of course, the great job that Andy Murray has done with keeping the Kings at or near the top of thier division without Allison or Deadmarsh (as well as missing other key player for all or most of the season as well) and how great the Kings younger players are. As a Kings fan I expected a struggle without Allison and Deadmarsh and felt that we would be lucky to be fighting for the final playoff spot and lucky to be close enough to make a run at it all season and here we are, playing well enough to be one of the better teams in our conference. Not the best by a long shot but near the top of the second tier teams and getting better all the time.

There are allot of shockers this season for true, but those are my top three. Well put kmad.

How dismal Dallas is doing.

The Comrie situation is such a soap opera... hard not to want to follow it.

I'm not surprised at all by Atlanta. I thought they would win the division before the season started, although I'm not so confident anymore considering how many games in hand Tampa has. I think they don't catch up with Atlanta in terms of games played until March. The schedule maker needs to be kicked.

The number of groin injuries in the NHL this season.
LA isn't the only team with the injury bug(read: plague).
Hartley's ability to coach his team through tragedy AND get Kovalchuk to be a leader plus play defence.
Dupuis thinking he could actually hold out.

I didn't think Rick Nash would score as much as he has.
I didn't think Tyson Nash would score as much as he has.
When did Shean Donovan get hands?
Where is everyone who predicted that David Aebischer would crash and burn?
Pierre Turgeon?

I've been impressed with Souray. He was coming off an injury that could have ended his career, but he's already doubled his previous career best goal tally. Also Ryder has really impressed me soon.

Rick Nash leading the league in goals- we all knew he would be good, but I didnt think he would reach that level that quick.

LA playing as well as they have with all the injuries.

Dallas and Washington just tanking it so far. $$$ vs. performance
Giguere pulling a "Carey" (Brodeur's better!)
Speaking of Brodeur, what a season so far.
Elias and PANDOLFO are the snipers in NJ
Hale & Martin
Lamoriello hasn't fired Burns yet.
Flyers and Devils are the best teams in the NHL (East > West )
Kings on IR again.
CuCHOKE...tough situation
Antropov injured (oh wait, that isn't a surprise :p )
Stajan
NY Rangers are still in the running for a playoff spot..............
