My NHL '07 Oilers Roster

Yet another stab to the heart of Oiler fans...

Recently I decided I'd make an optimistic but semi-realistic version of what I'd like to see iced as our lineup next year. It looked as follows:

Kariya Briere Hemsky
Torres Stoll Pisani
Moreau Pouliot Lupul
Jacques Schremp Nilsson

Pitkanen Smith
Smid Hejda
Greene Gilbert

Briere and Kariya - UFA signings this offseason
I pretended I "traded" Horcoff, Staios, and whatever ridiculous overpayment of picks/prospects it'd take to get Pitkanen.

The point of this, however, is that after I looked at it, I realized that this could've actually happened. All we had to do is..

-Sign Kariya out of the lockout, which we nearly did
-Trade Pronger straight up for Pitkanen (replace Lupul, Smid, with Horcoff, Staios)
-Sign Briere in the offseason with our Smyth $$

Of course I was brought back to earth once I realized it'd take one more thing..

- Increase payroll slightly...

Am I the only one that thinks this could've easily happened though?? It just seems too good to be that easy. It fits under the cap in the game, although that's not including the raises coming to our RFA's.

Wow. I can't believe I just read this.....

For what it's worth, in my Eastside Hockey Manager game, I finished with a cup in 2008. Mats Sundin lead the charge, setting up Robbie Schremp to score an OT winner to win the cup (in his Calder season). I mean, it seemed so easy.

Haha, somthing so gratifying about sharing your NHL 07 hockey season with others. In my opinion anyways.
Just a simple tip, a package of smyth, lupul and a first rounder gets the deal done for alex ovechkin. And he cant miss, its kinda actually not even fair.

LOL!

It's so easy. Seriously we should have Ovechkin. Lowe should be fired.

Lupul alone gets you Heatley. Yeah. Right.

They need to re-vamp the trades in that game.
In previous games, I was always cheap and before I started a dynasty, I would take the franchise players of a few teams, and trade them back to their respective teams, once in dynasty mode, for a first round draft pick.
Turns out, in NHL '07, the only player worth a first round draft pick is Sidney Crosby, and Marty Turco is actually worth a 5th rounder. I'm guessing it has alot to do with salaries, seeing as how the team would gain an extra 5.7 million, but the idea of Turco not being worth a 4th rounder is quite comical.

What? Why? In my season Horcoff had 111 points and a 9.02 average rating. He won the Art Ross; he absolutely rules in EHM.

I rented Drury and resigned him at $8M over two years. I also traded for Tomas Kaberle, Duncan Keith and Bobby Ryan. Peanuts really.

Horcoff had 112 goals in my NHL 2k7 season. It's quite funny when you look at the NHL record book and you see Shawn Horcoff with single season goal scoring record for the 2006-2007 season.

I also got Phaneuf for MA Bergeron and some change.

Yeah...my roster's a bit different. Not to mention, I'm going for my 4th straight cup.

Smyth - Stoll - Hemsky
Getzlaf - Schremp - Vyborny
Sanderson - Peca - Kunitz
Moreau - Reasoner - Pisani

Pitkanen - Syvret
Smid - Johnson (Jack)
Bergeron - Augusta (rookie)

Roloson
Deslauriers.

Stoll has 4 straight 100+ point season, Schremp's on fire. Good solid dynasty.

My example was EHM 07. Not quite as easy to trade for a dynasty team, but players do tend to become available way too often. In my season the Leafs traded Kaberle (to me), Kubina and McCabe which doesn't feel very likely at all actually. I've depleted my prospect pool but I've got some really exciting young players along with a bunch of stars. It's good to be me.

yeaa in ehm almost every player is avaliable on the teams not in the playoffs around deadline. I managed to trade Smyth str8 up for getzlaf and then st.louis str8 up for Malkin, and to top that off Ovechkin str8 up for Forsberg.

Forsberg and St.Louis I got for current Oilers.

Nilsson in NHL 07 is Magic

Kinda fitting seeing that his dad was the Magic Man. Anyways, I just traded for him (grabbed Grebs too) and the kid is unstoppable - fast, has the puck on a string but is seems really tiny and gets tired easily. Just my two cents.

In the real world Horcoff isn't worth a bag of pucks. LOL. Keep dreaming about improving your team. With Lowe at the reigns you'll continue to trade away all of your franchise players or anyone who seeks more than 4 million a year. What a joke. I thought the lock out was supposed to help the small Canadian teams.

Is that Al Strachan talking out of your mouth there?

I think there are a lot of big-market American teams that would stay far, far away from Smytty's demands. Trading Smytty was not about what the Oilers can afford, but how they want to spend their money.
